The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

While you are attempting to run Backup from Windows NT with an Archive
4000, 2000, or 1300 4mm DAT tape backup connected to an UltraStor
Ultra 24f SCSI controller, the application may freeze and the
following error message may occur:

   Hardware not responding

CAUSE
=====

UltraStor has confirmed that this behavior is caused by a problem with
ROM versions prior to 008 on the Ultra 24f. Verify that the ROM
version on the Ultra 24f card is at least 008. Any ROM revision prior
to 008 will not work. The latest revision is 008.

RESOLUTION
==========

To eliminate the error message and back up properly, upgrade the ROM
on the Ultra 24f to version 008.

For additional information, call UltraStor Technical Support at (510)
623-8955.

The Ultra 24f SCSI controller and the Archive tape backup products
included here are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft; we
