The information in this article applies to:
 
 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

If you experience a hard disk or data corruption problem and lose your
Windows NT system volume, you can restore Windows NT and preserve your
data if you made backup copies of the Windows NT system volume. To
restore Windows NT, use the following procedure:
 
1. From Windows NT Backup, restore the following directory and all the
   Registry files:
 
      <%SystemRoot%>\system32\config
 
2.  Reboot your machine.
 
3.  Restore the entire backup set except for the Registry files.
 
4.  Reboot your machine again.
 
The volume should be back to its original state.
