London is the capital and largest city in England.
It is one of the largest city in the world, and
the largest among all European cities. London is
built along the River Thames. In the early days
of the city the river was its lifeblood and helped
London become the city it is today. Ships from
every land still sail to and from the Port of
London. The city is a world center of trade, com-
merce, and finance. It also holds a leading
position in government, law, journalism, medicine,
music, sports, and the theater. Trafalgar Square
is often considered the center of the city. All
distances are usually measured from Charing Cross,
a point at the south edge of Trafalgar Square.
