Subject: "Image Contains Invalid Data"

Situation:
==========
The message "Image Contains Invalid Data" appears when attempting to
view a particular page of a fax. WinFax and Windows may lock up when
this occurs.

Solution:
=========
Once an image file is invalid, it cannot be viewed or loaded in the
WinFax Viewer.

If WinFax locks up:

1. Press F1 to open WinFax online help.

2. Close the online help to return to WinFax.

3.  Exit and restart WinFax.

    If you attempt to view the same page, WinFax and Windows will lock
    up again.

Invalid image files may be caused by any of the following:

    - Screen savers or other memory resident programs that monitor the
      communication ports for activity.

    - System buffering problems.

    - Using WinFax with an incompatible fax/modem initialization string.

Depending on your situation, try one or more of the following to prevent
fax images from becoming invalid.

a) Most screen savers work by monitoring the communication ports for
    activity, which can disrupt WinFax operations. You must disable IRQ
    monitoring for your screen saver to avoid these disruptions. To read
    about other symptoms of screen saver interference and how to disable
    IRQ monitoring, refer to the following technical note:

        2030 -- Screen Savers, Using with WinFax

b) In some cases, other TSRs or memory resident programs, such as virus
    scanning software, may be monitoring the communication ports and
    disrupting WinFax operations. Disable these programs on a temporary
    basis to determine if they are causing the problem. For information
    on memory resident programs, see your DOS user/reference manual.

c) Edit the SYSTEM.INI file in your Windows directory to alter the system
    buffering. Add the following settings to the [386Enh] section of the
    SYSTEM.INI file ...

        Comboosttime=30
        Com1Buffer=1024

    ... where "Com1" is your COM port.

d) If faxes continue to generate invalid image files, you may be using
    WinFax with an incorrect fax/modem initialization string. Try the
    following:

    - Run the WinFax PRO Setup program to respecify the fax/modem
       configuration.

       Follow the procedure for Changing Your Modem in the WinFax PRO
       User's Guide. See the Adding Options After Installation section of
       Chapter 2.

    - When prompted to specify your fax/modem description, be sure to
       select the option for the exact make and model of your fax/modem.
       If your fax/modem does not appear in the description list, select
       the "generic" setting at the top.

       Refer to your fax/modem manual or contact the manufacturer if you do
       not know the exact make and model.

    - If the problem continues, contact Delrina Technical Support for
       assistance.
