Subject: Setting Up and Using Multiple Dial Prefixes

Situation:
==========
You want to use multiple dial prefixes with WinFax PRO 3.0 to
accommodate all of your fax dialing requirements.

Solution:
=========
WinFax PRO 3.0 releases dated April 21, 1993 and later support multiple
dial prefixes. To determine the release date, pull down the Help menu in
WinFax and select About.

If you have a previous release of WinFax PRO 3.0, refer to the related
document listed at the end of this technical note for upgrade details.

Setting Up Multiple Prefixes
----------------------------
You must edit your WINFAX.INI file to set up the multiple dial prefix
feature. Afterwards, you can maintain your prefix list from within WinFax.

1. Open your WINFAX.INI file in Windows Notepad, or another basic
   text editor. This file is located in your WinFax directory (for
   example, C:\WINFAX).

2. Add the [Intl] section to your WINFAX.INI, followed by a Prefixn=
   parameter specifying each dial prefix you want to set up. For
   example:

        [Intl]
        Prefix1=9,
        Prefix2=9,18005557214000
        Prefix3=18005557214000

   In the above example, Prefix1 might be used for obtaining an outside
   line on an office phone system, Prefix 2 for credit card faxing from
   the office, and Prefix 3 for credit card faxing from home (where no
   initial prefix is required to obtain an outside line).

   Note: You must include at least the Prefix1= paramater and its value
         to set up a valid [Intl] section in your WINFAX.INI file.

3. After setting up your prefixes, save the changes to your WINFAX.INI
   file, and exit the text editor.

   The changes take effect when you next start WinFax.

Selecting a Prefix when Sending a Fax
-------------------------------------
1. Click the Options button in the Send Fax dialog.

2. In the Options Section of the dialog, enable Use Prefix.

   The currently selected prefix is shown in the Use Prefix field.

3. Click the down arrow button to display a drop-down list containing
   your dial prefixes.

4. Select the appropriate dial prefix from the list.

Maintaining Your Prefix List
----------------------------
1. Pull down the Fax menu in WinFax, and select Program Setup.

2. Click on Dial to open the Dial Setup dialog.

3. Clck on Dial Prefix to open the Dial Prefix dialog.

4. To add a new prefix, click on New. Type the new prefix, and click on OK.

5. To modify or delete a prefix, select the appropriate prefix.

   - Click on Modify to change the selected prefix. Edit the prefix, and
     click on OK.

   - Click on Delete to remove the prefix from the list. Click on OK to
     confirm the deletion.

Note: If you decide to return to using a single dial prefix that you can
      edit from the Send Fax dialog, delete the [Intl] section from your
      WINFAX.INI file.
