FASTMINDER INTERFACE 2.3 SURVEY ABOUT NEW FEATURES

  INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

This survey is intended to poll users of the program about any new features
they would like to see in forthcoming versions of the program (if there are
any--I have run out of ideas for interesting new features that are still in
keeping with the program's purpose of being a small, quick, and easy-to-use
directory changer and program launcher). At the present time, four features
are being looked at for inclusion, but they probably will not be written in
unless someone specifically asks for them. The four features are as follows

  1. Wilson Hitching's INPUTIT data-entry routine
Handles string input with more professional results than achieved with
standard C library functions (with the importance of robust user-input
handling, why isn't something like this part of most compiler language
extensions rather than being considered an "application framework?").

  2. Thomas Wagner's EXEC memory-swapping function
Swaps the main program to EMS, XMS, or disk before running the command
the user has specified. Given the program's reasonably small size, the
memory signature (which I have tried to keep under 100,000 bytes) does
not seem to present that many problems, but I may be wrong about this.

  3. Ron Gee's INTENSE.C for 16-color backgrounds
This would be the easiest one to implement, but because I use black on
gray color schemes almost universally I personally have no use for it.
Furthermore, the code may cause problems with certain display adaptors

  4. Provision for multiple auto-execute options
This feature would seem to provide the most real benefit to users, but
the precise method for implementing it has yet to be determined. Users
with any specific suggestions should forward them to me by CIS mail or
by postcard (to the address shown in the README23 documentation file).
