TOSHIBA ENHANCES NOTEBOOK COMPUTER LINE WITH ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT
UTILITIES

The Computer Systems Division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.
(TAIS), utilizes an advanced approach to power management in notebook
computers through the use of custom logic chips to shut down elements of
the computer system. For example, the hard disk drive is turned off when
it is not being used. The combination of power management techniques and
superior battery technology enables Toshiba to offer a complete power
management feature set to users of its battery-powered computers, while
maintaining the small footprint and light weight that make these notebook
computers ideal for the traveling professional.

The utilities below complement the T2200SX notebook computer. These
features are only in effect when the battery source is in use.

CPU Sleep Mode: Allows the processor to slow down when it detects
reduced demands on the CPU, resulting in less power consumed.

Hard Disk Drive Auto-Off: This option shuts off power to the
computer's internal disk drive after a specified amount of time (3-30
minutes) to save power.

Display Auto-Off: Turns off screen lighting when keyboard is not in
use, thus reducing power consumption.

For the T3300SL, T4400SX and T4400SXC, the above functions can be adjusted
by the user while accessing the battery or with AC power supply. These
power notebooks also offer the user the option to choose the duration of
the power management functions through automatic, normal and user-set
modes.

The features below are offered with all Toshiba notebook computers:

AutoResume: Known as Toshiba's "electronic bookmark," AutoResume
eliminates the power drain associated with accessing the floppy and disk
drives when powering on by returning the system back to the exact place
where the user stopped work, thus no need to reboot, open a program or a
file. AutoResume automatically saves the user's place if the main battery
is exhausted, allowing the user to replace the battery or find an
electrical outlet to continue working as if the user had never been
interrupted.

Speaker On and Off: Reduces the audible sounds of the computer.

Battery Alarm On and Off: Similar to the speaker on and off mode,
this function disables the battery alarm.

Processing Speed: The user is able to reduce the processing speed to
minimize power consumption.

LCD Brightness (excluding units with TFT-LCD): The display intensity
can be controlled to adjust the brightness of the screen, allowing for
more power with the greater intensity. The system can be defaulted to a
semi-bright mode for lower power consumption.

Card Modem Power: The power for the optional card modem can be turned
on or off, saving power when the modem is not in use.

Multiple Batteries: Multiple batteries are used to ensure that no
data will be lost when using AutoResume and hard RAM features. After the
main battery is discharged, the backup battery provides 12 additional
hours for the user to locate another power source. A separate, third
battery, known as the real-time clock battery, is used to save the user's
settings for power saving features.

The T3300SL utilizes the i386SL microprocessor designed to extend battery
life by providing greater control over the ability to turn off power to
the computer's components and peripherals when they are not in use. Some
of these features that are unique to the T3300SL include:

Panel Power: When Panel Power and AutoResume are both enabled, this
feature will automatically invoke AutoResume every time you close the
display panel. When you open the display panel back up, you will be able
to resume work right where you left off. This exciting new feature makes
it more convenient than ever to save time and battery life.

Alarm Power: This feature lets you specify a time you want the
computer to automatically power on. This is a benefit, for instance, when
you need to download data from a remote location at a time when you will
not be available.

Floppy Disk Drive Auto Off: Allows the user to shut off power to the
computer's internal disk drive controller, thus saving additional power.

System Auto Off: Automatically shuts off the entire system after a
user-selected period of time (30 or 60 minutes).

Overall, Toshiba provides customers with the most advanced power management
capabilities in the industry, thus ensuring optimum use "anytime,
anywhere."
