New York--June 23, 1992--Grammatik 5 for Windows, Reference Software
International's newest version of grammar-checking software, is on display
this week at PC Expo, Booth #3752. With two million users, Grammatik is
the most popular writing improvement tool on the market. It works as
easily as a spell checker to proofread word processing documents for
grammar, style, punctuation and spelling.

Grammatik 5, which has a suggested retail price of $99, has been completely
rewritten to provide enhanced grammatical analysis, Windows 3.1
compatibility, in-depth help features, a streamlined interface and more
customization options. The DOS version has been available since February.

Proofreads from any Windows application

Grammatik 5 is no longer just a word processing add-on. It can be loaded
onto the Windows Control Menu inside all Windows programs. This feature
allows the user to launch Grammatik instantly from any Windows application
for proofreading of text from desktop publishing packages to electronic
mail, databases, spreadsheets and so on. Users of WordPerfect for Windows,
Word for Windows and Ami Pro can proofread their documents through their
word processors' button bars, menus and icon palettes. Grammatik also
opens files instantly through Windows 3.1 ' s Drag and Drop feature.

"Grammatik 5 for Windows works like a grammar server, available to check
errors in any Windows application," says Don Emery, president and CEO of
Reference Software. "Just for e-mail alone, the ability to proofread with
Grammatik will help all of us who've been embarrassed by grammatical and
spelling mistakes in important mail messages."

Root word-based dictionary offers advanced error detection

Mor-Proof is the new state of the art word analysis technology at Grammatik
5's foundation. Mor-Proof--which stands for morphological (root
word-based) proofreading--provides improved grammar and spell checking
accuracy. It contains four core elements: a root word-based dictionary, a
redesigned grammar engine, an enhanced replacement and editing mechanism,
and an enriched database of style and grammar rules.

The dictionary's 100,000 root words are backed by 96 attributes (such as
noun, countable, singular; more than twice as many as Grammatik IV) and 58
classes of grammar, style and mechanical rules to analyze sentences.
Grammatik 5 looks at the root word's characteristics to see how key words
in the sentence function. It then builds a complete picture of the phrase
and clause structure to identify more structural errors.

Help enhanced, easier readability

The new context-sensitive Help works within the Microsoft Windows Help
system. It is much faster to access (directly from the simplified
error-detection screen) and guides the user in both writing and program
functions. It also offers advice on setting up writing styles, deciding
why to use a certain style and so on. Also new is the large font feature,
which allows users to increase the font size in the text box for easier
readability.

Superior customization, more writing styles

The enhanced Rule Designer module lets users easily write rules to
accommodate word usages endemic to a particular company or department.
Grammatik stands out among the competition as having the most writing
styles to choose from: 10 styles plus three custom styles, each with three
levels of formality. And users can still rely on Grammatik's grade level
and readability comparison charts to judge their finished products:
Grammatik determines at what grade level the text is written and compares
the work to three documents of varying complexity so that users can track
their writing progress over time.

Requirements and availability

Grammatik 5 for Windows supports all popular word processors plus any
standard ASCII text or RTF files. It requires an IBM or compatible PC with
80286 or faster microprocessor, Microsoft Windows 3.0 or 3. 1, 2 MB RAM
and a hard disk with 2.2 MB free space.

It is available from Reference Software International (800-872-9933), major
computer retailing and warehouse outlets and these distributors: Ingram
Micro, Kenfil, Merisel, SoftKat, Software Resource, JB Marketing and
Multimicro.

Grammatik 5 retails for $99. Upgrades from previous versions are available
for $34.99 directly from the company. Competitive upgrades are available
for RightWriter and Correct Grammar users for $44.99.
