June 22, 1992 -- KINGSTON, MA - Microway is snipping its new 25 MHz
FASTCache-SX/Plus. This 386SX full-length, AT expansion card couples
32-bit performance with high-speed memory on a single board. It converts
over 100 brands of AT compatibles into powerful 386SXs with up to sixteen
megabytes of extended memory. AT owners can now run 32-bit, protected mode
applications and multitasking operating environments such as Windows,
DESQview-386, OS/2, and UNIX. It is fully compatible with existing AT
hardware and software.

Last year, Microway introduced the FASTCache-SX which contained no memory.
This board was selected as PC WEEK's "Analyst's Choice" of 386SX
accelerator cards. Now, with the addition of a 25 MHz 386SX and high-speed
system memory, FASTCache-SX/Plus outperforms all other 386SX-based
motherboards, and provides the equivalent throughput of more expensive
386DX-based systems.

Most applications run three to five times faster with FASTCache-SX/Plus.
Equipped with an optional 387SX, it delivers up to 2.1 MegaWhetstones,
which is five to ten times the numeric throughput of a 6 MHz IBM AT with a
287. At a clock frequency of 25 MHz, FASTCache-SX/Plus registers a
Landmark rating of 36 for the CPU and Norton SI ratings of 21.2 (Norton
Utilities System Information, version 6.0).

FASTCache-SX/Plus contains an extremely efficient 16K 486-style internal
four-way set associative cache that results in zero-wait-state fetches of
code and data. It also utilizes a 5-deep "write buffer" to speed up data
transfers between the 386SX and the system memory.

The 386SX is a 32-bit processor that uses a 16-bit data bus. Therefore, the
memory on the FASTCache-SX/Plus is organized as 16-bit memory that can be
configured as 0.5,1,1.5, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 16 megabytes of extended memory.
It can also be used to backfill a 512K motherboard to 640K.
FASTCache-SX/Plus allows the use of all existing system memory.

FASTCache-SX/Plus operates as an asynchronous emulator at 25 MHz by
replacing the system's 286 with a 386SX that runs independently of the
motherboard clock. This is accomplished using a flexible circuit-style
cable which plugs into the 286 socket. Installation/cable kits are
available for all types of 286 sockets--PGA, LCC, or PLCC.

FASTCache-SX/Plus works in over 100 systems including: Acer, AST, AT&T,
Compaq, Compuadd, DTK, Epson, Everex, Hewlett Packard, Honeywell, IBM (AT,
PS/2 Model 30-286, and XT-286), NEC, Northgate, Packard Bell, PC Limited,
Tandon, Tandy, Wang, Wyse, Zenith, ZEOS. Microway continues to test
compatibility with additional systems at this time.

The 25 MHz version with OK is $595. The installation/cable kit is $95.
Memory and 387SX numeric coprocessors are installed and tested by Microway
at prevailing market prices. FASTCacheSX/Plus comes with a 30-day,
unconditional, money-back guarantee and includes a one year warranty.

Microway is a ten year old, privately-held company with offices in the
U.S., London, Germany, and the Far East. It has a solid reputation as the
leader in high performance hardware and software for numerics. Microway
specializes in accelerators and motherboards, i860 coprocessor boards,
486-based workstations, compilers, and transputer-based parallel
processing cards for the XT, AT, and 386 and 486-based micros.
