June 23, 1992 New York, NY--Custom Applications, Inc. (CAI) announced today
that it is releasing two special versions of its PostScript@' language
interpreter, Freedom of Press Professional, exclusively designed to
support the Canon CJ10 Color Bubble-Jet Copier. Available for both Windows
and Macintosh Freedom of Press Professional for the CJ10 enables users to
print high quality color presentations, newsletters, business graphics,
scanned images, and crisp, clear text directly from within their
application software programs. Being demonstrated in Canon USA's booth at
PC Expo this week, the packages will be available in July, 1992. Suggested
retail price in the US is $895.00.

With Freedom CJ10 users can produce beautifully detailed, 400 dpi
continuous tone color documents and be assured of compatibility with their
favorite Macintosh or Windows desktop publishing and graphics software
applications. In addition to its printing capabilities, the CJ10 can
operate as a stand-alone color copier and a 400 dpi full-color scanner,
providing a range of functionality and performance not previously
available in a single desktop device.

"We are very pleased to support the CJ10 which is clearly a breakthrough
product for Canon and the graphics and color publishing industry," said
Jeffrey Moore, president of CAI. "With Freedom and the CJ10, producing
beautiful, high quality color documents, quickly and easily, will be
possible for even the most cost-conscious user," he added.

Freedom of Press Professional is fully compatible with the PostScript
language, including the Adobe-defined PostScript color extensions for 24
and 32-bit images. Plus, with its sophisticated antialiasing capabilities,
Freedom of Press Professional can produce superior, near-typeset quality
graphics and text on the CJ10. Included in the package are thirty-five
(35) scalable and rotatable outline fonts equivalent to the Apple
LaserWriter IINT fonts. In addition, Adobe Type Manager and hinted Adobe
Type 1 fonts are fully supported, providing access to thousands of
typestyles.

To operate as a printer, the CJ10 must be equipped with a Canon CJ10 IPU SS
(with 2 MB of memory and a SCSI interface). The Macintosh version of
Freedom of Press runs on any Macintosh with a math co-processor and
requires 4 MB of accessible RAM (8 MB or above recommended for background
and color printing), 4 MB of hard disk space, and System 6.0.7 or above
(System 7 compatible). The Canon CJ10 IPU Kit for Macintosh is also
recommended. The Windows version of Freedom requires a 386- or 486-based
PC (or equivalent), math co-processor, 4 MB of RAM DOS memory (up to 8 MB
strongly recommended), 4 MB hard disk space, and Windows 3.0 or 3.1 with
1.5 MB extended memory (XMS). The Canon CJ10 IPU Kit for Windows/AT Bus is
also required.

Established in 1980, CAI is the developer of high performance PostScript
language compatible RIPs that are currently implemented and shipping in
imagesetters, film recorders, laser printers, and common industry-standard
platforms. More than 35 corporations have licensing agreements with CAI to
provide PostScript language compatibility to their systems. In 1988, CAI
introduced its first Freedom of Press product and currently markets a
complete line of top-rated Freedom of Press products for PC, Windows,
Macintosh, and several UNIX platforms. CAI has won numerous awards for its
products including the "Software Product of the Year" Editor's Choice
Award in 1989 from MacUser Magazine for Freedom of Press, Macintosh
version, and a 1992 Top 100 Win Award from Windows Magazine for Freedom of
Press, Windows version.
