Attachmate Extends Multi-Platform Workstation Support with EXTRA! for
Macintosh and 3270 Gateway Option

BELLEVUE. WA. JUNE 15. 1992-- Attachmate Corporation today announced EXTRA!
for Macintosh and 3270 Gateway Option version 3.0, extending its
workstation-to-IBM mainframe connectivity solutions to include Macintosh,
as well as IBM-compatible workstations. EXTRA! for Macintosh is a new,
easy-to-use, full-function 3270 emulator that incorporates the same high
performance and compatibility with IBM communications standards as the
rest of the EXTRA! family. 3270 Gateway Option version 3.0 is a
significant upgrade of the award-winning product.

EXTRA! for Macintosh: Macintosh Ease of Use and IBM Communications
Compatibility

EXTRA! for Macintosh easily connects with SNA networks, simplifying the
task of the network administrator. It communicates with the mainframe via
Attachmate's 3270 Gateway Option version 3.0, on Ethernet, Token Ring, or
LocalTalk LANs. Since Macintosh workstations can share the same gateway
with PC and PS/2 workstations, companies can avoid the expense and
complication of buying and maintaining separate gateway hardware and
software to support both Macintosh and IBM-compatible workstation users.

Yet EXTRA! for Macintosh has a true Macintosh look and feel, with a user
interface designed to satisfy the expectations of Macintosh users. It
combines high performance with ease of use, allowing Macintosh users to
quickly become proficient in accessing corporate information on IBM
mainframes.

"We designed EXTRA! for Macintosh to be a solution for Macintosh users that
the IBM side of the house can fully embrace, as well," said Mary Harwood,
Attachmate's vice president of marketing. "Until now, IBM SNA network and
LAN administrators have been reluctant to give Macintosh users 3270
support because of the difficulties involved in allowing PC and Mac
workstations to access the mainframe from the same LAN. The Attachmate
solution eliminates the difficulties."

A full-functioned 3270 emulator, EXTRA! for Macintosh offers the high
performance and compliance with IBM communications standards of its DOS
and Windows counterparts, EXTRA! extended for DOS and EXTRA! for Windows.
It provides quick screen refresh and high-speed file transfers, including
IND$FILE transfers under VM/CMS, MVS/TSO, and CICS and OV/MVS (PS/CICS)
import/export functions.

3270 Gateway Option 3.0: Multi-Platform Workstation Support

The 3270 Gateway Option for EXTRA! version 3.0 supports LAN-connected IBM
PC and PS/2 and compatible workstations (running MS-DOS or Windows), and
now Macintosh workstations. Workstation connectivity software supported by
the gateway includes EXTRA! Extended for DOS, EXTRA! for Windows, IBM's
3270 terminal-emulation products, and EXTRA! for Macintosh.

3270 Gateway Option 3.0: Session-Management Features

The 3270 Gateway Option version 3.0 offers several new session-management
features to assist network administrators in managing communications
through the gateway:

NetView Alert support allows network administrators to take advantage of
mainframe-based NetView capabilities.

Event tracking lets the network administrator record gateway activity into
a file for later use. The gateway can track gateway events such as
Connect, Disconnect, Bind, and Unbind, as well as NetView events, or a
combination of both. This event log can be accessed and manipulated by a
database or spreadsheet program for troubleshooting and network planning.

Enhanced LU-session management lets the network administrator disable a bad
host session to restore a user's access to a functioning session without
unloading the gateway.

"LAN administrators told us they wanted to have more local control over
their part of the network," said Harwood. The 3270 Gateway's event
tracking and enhanced local session management give LAN administrators
information and functionality previously available to only the SNA network
manager."

System Requirements, Availability, and Pricing

EXTRA! for Macintosh requires a Macintosh Plus or later with a minimum of 1
