NEW YORK, June 23, 1992: Dauphin Technology, Inc., the Lombard, Illinois
firm set to deliver some 75,000 laptop and notebook computers to the U.S.
Department of Defense (DOD) over the next three years, has plunged
head-first into the world of pen-based computing.

"It's going to change the way people work," says Allan J. Castillo,
Executive Vice President at Dauphin. "Pen-based systems will enhance the
productivity of current users and make users out of executives and field,
service and sales people who haven't normally used computers."

Dauphin is committing 90% of its R&D funds to pen-based development,
according to Alan Yong, President and Chief Executive Officer of the
4-year-old firm.

"We feel very strongly that pen-based computing is the next evolving
technology," Yong says, adding, "A few years ago the laptop replaced the
desktop; then the notebook started replacing the laptop. Today Dauphin is
leading the industry by bridging notebook technology with pen technology,
for the ultimate in versatility for both horizontal and vertical
applications."

Dauphin Technology, Inc. is demonstrating working prototypes of the Dauphin
5000 Series Pentop Computer at PC Expo in New York, June 23-25. The first
model of what is planned to be a complete family of Dauphin pen-based
units is scheduled for shipment in the 4th quarter. Castillo says the
Dauphin 5000 is a full featured, 386SL/25 MHz notebook size computer.

"Not just a notebook with a pen thrown on, this is far more versatile,"
Castillo says. "The user has the option of carrying the small external
keyboard with the unit or using the pen-based system as a tablet. The pen
provides the added benefits of pointing and handwriting or gesture
recognition."

The Dauphin 5000 offers these key features:
* Intel 80386SL, 32-bit, 25 MHz microprocessor
* Dual BIOS that supports DOS-based and pencentric
  operating systems
* Full complement of I/O ports
* flip-up/flip-down screen
* an internal floppy disk drive
* 2MB RAM expandable to 18 MB
* a 60 MB hard drive upgradable to 130 MB
* Backlit VGA (640 x 480 x 64 gray scales)
* External analog monitor port with up to
  Super VGA capability (800 x 600 x 256 colors)
* Small external keyboard
* Advanced power management and
* Simultaneous LCD and external CRT display.

The Dauphin 5000 Series Pentop further provides enhanced connectivity and
communications capabilities, with a 100-pin AT bus connector and an
internal 9600/2400 baud send and receive fax/data modem. All these
features combined make the Dauphin 5000 Series Pentop unique among pen
systems available today and, according to Castillo, improve upon notebook
technology currently available.

Alan Yong points out that while pen computing is a new and evolving
technology, the Dauphin 5000 is useful today. Customers can take advantage
of pen technology now to more efficiently run such applications as
WordPerfect, Excel, Windows and Lotus 1-2-3, he says. With today's icons
"getting even smaller," the pen's more intuitive pointing capability is
invaluable.

"The finger is too big for accurate pointing and many people have to point
and click several times to get the mouse arrow into the right position.
The Dauphin pen solves that problem," Castillo

There are a lot of hot new applications poised for entry into the pen-based
industry. Dauphin executives note that the Dauphin 5000 is ready to
seamlessly integrate these exciting pencentric applications and operating
systems as they become available.

"We are currently evaluating next generation pen technology, which may
include clipboard and hand-held units," says Yong. "As we grow the Dauphin
family of pen-based systems we will also aggressively pursue advanced
features such as color screens, a PCMCIA slot, wireless communication and
a SCSI port.

"Stay tuned for Fall COMDEX," he advises. "We will be making some very
exciting and proprietary announcements regarding Dauphin's pen-based
series."
