June 22, 1992 -- LAKE MARY, FLORIDA -- Maynard Electronics, an Archive
company, today introduced the ArchiveVP tape backup system with QICstream
4.0 software. The ArchiveVP product is the first QIC-standard system
designed specifically for growing networks thanks to a built-in upgrade
path for maximum investment protection. The system is available
immediately with suggested retail prices ranging from $995 to $1795.

Delivering up to 250MB capacity for PC, PS/2 and compatible systems, the
ArchiveVP system offers full support for NetWare 2.x, 3.x and NetWare Lite
systems. Other features of the system include disk-based backup catalogs
to quickly locate a single file or an entire backup set, Fast File Access
capability, open file backup support, session logging for unattended
backups and a new user interface with pull-down menus.

QICstream 4.0 software protects the user's investment in existing tape
libraries and ensures simple migration as the user's capacity and
functionality needs grow. The system will read existing tapes created with
QICstream version 2.01, 1.92vb for ArchiveVP systems and file-by-file
tapes created with FasTape 5.0 software. QICstream 4.0 software utilizes
the Maynard Tape Format and can be read by MaynStream tape backup systems
(version 3.0 or later), which offer up to 5GB of storage. The Maynard Tape
Format was chosen by Microsoft as the basis of the logical tape format for
Windows NT, and was recently adopted by the QIC Committee as the
recommended format for interchange of data between systems.

"The new ArchiveVP system takes much of the complexity out of the process
of choosing a small network tape backup system," said Chris Tipton, vice
president of Maynard's Systems Business Group. "It lets a user select a
top-grade system for current backup needs with complete assurance that it
can easily accommodate network growth. The ArchiveVP with QICstream 4.0
system delivers maximum data protection and maximum value."

While the system comes in 60MB and 150MB configurations, users can boost
these capacities to 100MB and 250MB respectively with extended-length
tapes. Full NetWare support means users can quickly back up and restore
their servers with complete protection for NetWare bindery files,
directory/file attributes, trustees, directory disk space limitations and
Apple File Protocol (AFP) folders and files.

The systems' backup cataloging feature makes it easy to locate a single
file or an entire backup set, eliminating the need to manually search
through multiple tapes or tape libraries to find files. Catalogs are
stored on disk, recording the name of the tape and backup sets, and can
include information about directories, files names, dates and attributes.
Cataloging also enables Fast File Access to quickly advance a tape to the
location of a desired file and begin restoring the data.

Open file backup support ensures that network bindery and other system
files are backed up either while the network is running or via a "skipped"
script during network slack time. Session logging creates a detailed log
of all backup and restore operations, providing key information especially
on unattended operations. Other features include flexible file section,
unattended backup, password protection, context sensitive help, immediate
backup verification and expanded memory support. Current ArchiveVP system
users can purchase QICstream 4.0 software for $79 through the Maynard
software upgrade program. Upgrades are free to customers who purchased
systems after March 1, 1992.
