New 486DX2 Transformer Kit Turns PC/XT/AT Systems into Desktop
Workstations

o Double Clock 486DX2 microprocessor combines 25 MHz external operation
with blazing fast 50MHz internal operation

o Passive backplane strategy provides true upgrade, simplifies servicing
and eliminates networking incompatibilities

o Designed, manufactured, assembled and tested in the U.S.

Irvine, CA -- May 11, 1992 -- Alpha System Labs, Inc. (ASL) has announced
the 486DX2, the newest member of its US-made Transformer family of "Total
Upgrade" direct replacement motherboard kits, according to an announcement
by Rose Hwang, president of ASL.

Featuring Intel's new 80486DX2 double clock microprocessor the 486DX2
provides 50MHz internal processing speed. Externally, the 486DX2 performs
at 25 MHz. Complex operations benefit from the doubled clock rate of the
internal processor.

"This is the highest performance Transformer motherboard we've ever
offered, " said Ms. Hwang. "The 486DX2 lets you turn your old PC, XT or AT
into a high performance desktop workstation."

ASL employs a unique and highly successful upgrade strategy. Rather than
offer motherboards whose form factor, bolt patterns, etc., may not be
compatible with the end-user's particular system, ASL has developed a
universal passive backplane and CPU card set that replaces the original
motherboard. The universal passive backplane provides a direct replacement
for the motherboard in most IBM and IBM-compatible PCs, XTs or ATs,
including the AT&T 6300, Zenith 248, Zenith XT, COMPAQ luggable, COMPAQ
Deskpro, AST Premium 286, NEC Powermate, and PCs made by Olivetti, Xerox,
and Wang.

This total upgrade strategy greatly reduces servicing time and cost for
large volume users of PCs. Now, rather than perform a time consuming
motherboard replacement, the service engineer simply unplugs and replaces
the CPU card that needs to be serviced.

Because all active components are on the CPU card, there are no components
to fail on the passive backplane. Substantial savings may also be realized
by standardizing formerly incompatible systems from different vendors on
the Transformer architecture. This eliminates incompatibility problems
typically confronted when networking heterogeneous systems.

A further benefit is the savings incurred by reducing your service needs to
a single vendor. The confusion of maintaining systems obtained from a
myriad of suppliers is a thing of the past.

The Transformer 486DX2 employs numerous advanced features not typically
found on upgrades motherboards. Transformer upgrades require no
replacement of the original power supply because ASL's highly integrated
CPU cards make the fullest use of low-power CMOS circuits. Use of high
speed 60ns RAM SIMM modules eliminates the need for additional cache
memory.

Important features of the 486DX2 Transformer upgrade kit include:

* Full Hardware and Software compatibility
*  Passive Backplane Card
*  486DX2 CPU card
*  (1) Parallel Port
*  (2) Serial Ports
*  Floppy disk controller
* Expansion slots: PCs - 5 slots, XTs and ATs - 8 slots
*  IDE hard disk controller
*  Up to 32Mbytes RAM on-board

The Transformer strategy provides a total upgrade while replacing only the
motherboard. You may still use your existing peripherals, peripheral
cards, keyboard, and case.

Fully tested before shipment, all CPU cards undergo a 48-hour burn-in
environmental test before acceptance. A 30-day "moneyback" guarantee, as
well as a 2 year parts and labor warranty are provided with every
upgrade.

The Transformer family of upgrade kits includes 386SX, 386DX, 486SX, 486DX
and 486DX2 configurations.

Price of the 486DX2 with 1 megabyte of RAM is $1195 (quantity one).
Availability is immediate.
