VocalTec Introduces VocalChat for Real-Time Voice Communications Via
Networked PCs

A Windows Software Package, VocalChat Enables Voice Conversation on a LAN;
Answering Machine Mode Captures Audio Messages.

NORTHVALE, NJ, May 25, 1993 --- VocalTec Inc. today introduced VocalChat, a
Windows software package that enables people with PC's to speak with
individuals or groups via their local area network (LAN) or to leave voice
messages for those who aren't available.

A real-time voice communications tool, VocalChat vastly expands the methods
of communicating on the network. It serves as an inexpensive alternative
to voice mail for internal use and offers more because it allows for
interactive communications. It also simplifies the broadcasting of audio
messages to groups on a LAN and gives users a new way to hold conferences
with others in the company.

"VocalChat is the first product to enable voice communications over the
network from any audio-capable PC," said Dr. Elon A. Ganor, Chief
Executive Officer of VocalTec. "The market is moving toward integration of
all types of communication equipment on the PC. VocalChat is a product
that takes advantage of this to offer end users a whole new level of
communications capabilities on the network."

VocalChat Features & Benefits

VocalChat works with PC's with Windows 3. 1, a network adapter and any
Windows-compatible audio device, including VocalTec's CAT, which produces
the highest-quality sound of any device of its kind.

To make calls via VocalChat, users click on the VocalChat icon to view a
list of people on the network and select those with whom they want to
speak. VocalChat makes the connection instantly, and its voice activated
system keeps the link open until the conversation is completed.
VocalChat's real-time voice compression and automatic idle detection
conserve network resources, enabling people to continue with data
communications while speaking on the network. A graphic Windows interface
gives users an easy way to control volume and monitor network activity to
see who is on the call. Also, VocalTec's user-configurable quick-dial
buttons accelerate connection with frequently called numbers.

If an individual or a group of people aren't at their desks when called
through VocalChat, the software's answering machine mode automatically
records messages. Users can personalize greetings to indicate they aren't
available and can easily access messages left by others in VocalChat's
archiving facilities.

Pricing & Availability

While the suggested retail price for VocalChat is $399, VocalTec is selling
the product for $99 per network under a special introductory offer.
VocalChat will be available in August in major computer stores worldwide
and direct from the company.
