DeskTracy, the first network management utility to monitor use and control
system access

Program allows for billing or auditing of network use

July 15, 1993 - Oakland, California - KansasBay Systems, Inc. announces a
major upgrade to DeskTracy, the network private eye, scheduled for release
in August. DeskTracy is a suite of network utilities which monitor use and
control system access. The totally revised version 2.0, includes a new
interface designed for tracking users, time and prints, folder locking,
system protection and new administration tools.

DeskTracy incorporates breakthroughs in both technology and affordability.
It is the first software to invisibly (no spoolers) track prints from any
LaserWriter device on the network from any application. Until DeskTracy,
businesses were unable to track and assign a cost to printing or faxing on
the network. It is the first software package to include "network basics",
like a customizable screen-saver, security features, and piracy
prevention, as an integral part of the entire application.

DeskTracy takes less than 5 minutes to configure and can be used an entire
network or an individual Macintosh. All features are fully customizable to
reflect the user environment and requirements.

Target Customers

Originally designed for the rental environments of Copy Shops, Service
Bureaus and University Mac Lab's for tracking use by walk-in customers,
DeskTracy is familiar to millions of users on a daily basis. Now
home-business can document use for their tax returns; corporate
environments can audit use by department or billback by customer, project
or employee; and computer labs can charge for time and prints.

DeskTracy 2.0 was redesigned for this newly expanded market. The results
are an easy-to-use interface allowing more control over network and
hardware use, increased systems protection and expanded reporting.

"Our customers wanted an uncomplicated system for monitoring time and
prints, and for decreasing the users ability to randomly trash the system
or pirate software." says Chris Cacioppo, CEO and President of KansasBay
Systems, Inc. "DeskTracy makes it possible for businesses to recoup or
justify their investment in equipment in a very short time."

Product Features

DeskTracy is virtually transparent in its operation. Once logged on, the
users name appears in a pull down menu (a la DiskDoubler) in the menu-bar
of the Finder. Current rates, preferences and usage totals can be viewed
or paused via this menu or by key commands at any time during operation.
Access to these controls can be secured on an individual machine or across
the network by the manager. The software is modularly configured by
feature:

Access Control: Define the log-in features, lock folders, set an access
password, protect copying or deleting applications, pausing time tracking,
changing preferences, or modification to the system folder.

Time Tracking: Set rates for each machine on the network, by hour,
increment, minimum and starting rates.

Print Tracking: Set-rates for each printer in each zone on the network. Set
a default printer for report or proof printing and to prevent costly
prints to a more expensive machine.

Database/Reports: Select the format for reporting use, revenue &
mail-lists.

ScreenSaver: Create and play any number of PICT's in any order and at any
interval of your choosing.

Log-in Screen: The greeting which appears to the user detailing any charges
attached to the use of the CPU or printers on the network, and requires
log-in.
