SOFTWARE AUTOMATICALLY GENERATES MESH FOR AERODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF
AUTOMOTIVE BODIES

(Bingham Farms, Michigan -- August 5, 1993) EASi Engineering has announced
the introduction of a computational fluid dynamics pre-processor designed
specially for automotive aerodynamic problems. The new pre-processor,
called Aero-VISTA, provides automatic creation of 3D mesh for
computational flow dynamics (CFD) thus performing a job that today
typically requires a month or more in a few hours.

Aero-VISTA accepts automotive body geometry data from computer-aided design
(CAD) systems in a variety of formats. Input geometry is accepted in
surface format. The next step is automatic generation of a surface grid.
Aero-VISTA duplicates the environment of a wind tunnel and generates a
grid in flow space. It also handles the difficult problem of maintaining
continuity through use of a topology that divides the flow domain into
zones using the block structure approach.

Rather than a lengthy and difficult modeling process, the user only has to
monitor the above automated process which typically takes a few hours.
Then, the 3D grid is exported/written out in the proper format for
solution by StarCD or other popular CFD codes. The entire process of
generating and validating the model which normally takes several months
can typically be accomplished in about one week.

Founded in 1981, EASi Engineering has a staff of over 100 professionals and
is one of the largest suppliers of computer-aided engineering services to
the automobile industry. EASi's capabilities include structural crash
simulation, occupant simulation, biomechanics, linear and nonlinear finite
element analysis, optimization, kinematics and dynamic analysis.
Additional capabilities includes analysis of noise, vibration and
harshness, and alternate materials evaluation including structural
plastics and composites. The company also offers EASiBUMPER software which
allows the material and geometry of automotive bumpers to be analyzed and
optimized in the concept phase on a personal computer without building a
prototype.
