SHERLOCK 2.0 RELEASED BY 2010 SOFTWARE CORP. SOLVES THE MYSTERY OF FINDING
WINDOWS FILES AND NOW ALSO SUPPORTS FULL-TEXT SEARCH, DOS FILE NAMES...

August 9, 1993 -- (New York, NY) -- 2010 Software Corp. today released a
greatly enhanced version of its software product, SHERLOCK for IBM PCs
running Microsoft Windows v3.1. The software provides a highly acclaimed
system for managing files by utilizing 254 character file descriptions as
opposed to "standard" 8 character file names. SHERLOCK is easily
affordable, intuitive and "visual," and is intended for both individuals
and network users.

SHERLOCK solves a key weakness of Microsoft Windows: it's dependency on
DOS's 8 character file naming system. SHERLOCK is made even more important
by Microsoft's lack of attention to the problem, even in the next version
of Windows (now seen slipping past mid-1994.)

SHERLOCK's ground-breaking capabilities extend the Windows filing
environment by seamlessly replacing the Windows Save and Open dialog boxes
with access to SHERLOCK's file access cards and 254 character file
descriptions to provide instant retrieval of saved files using a
"best-fit" lookup including string/word/sentence search. Searching also
supports use of optional fields that categorize files by Document Type,
Contact, Dates, Full Text Search and more. SHERLOCK also provides a Visual
Filing Environment with familiar metaphors for network stations (offices),
drives (file cabinets) and sub-directories (file drawers and folders),
automatic launching of applications for the selected document, and Novell
Netware compatibility.

New features in SHERLOCK 2.0 include: (1) Full text search - so users can
find a document that contains a specific word or set of words; (2)
SHERLOCK users can now control both the 8 character DOS filename and the
SHERLOCK 254 character file description; (3) Optical drives and removable
media are now supported; (4) Searching for files has been sped up; (5)
Files can now be printed without opening them; and (6) The installation
procedure has been improved, including control over where the SHERLOCK
program and data files are stored.

"We've created a product that enables Windows users to avoid the cryptic
file names that have been forced on them by Microsoft DOS in 1981, and
Digital Research before them back in 1977, " said Carl Sgro, President of
2010 Software. "Accessing files with English descriptions removes the
major frustration of using - and often even losing -files under Windows.
SHERLOCK's seamless integration with the popular Windows applications
allows the user to completely forget about DOS file names, directory names
and sub-directory names, and to work more productively and efficiently,
even across a network."

Mr. Sgro continued: "SHERLOCK 2.0 responds to the very real needs that our
users have asked us to solve. Specifically, we've added Text Search so
users can locate documents that contain a particular word or set of words,
and we now allow the user to control the DOS file name that is used to
store the file so they can more easily transfer files out of SHERLOCK for
DOS programs and programs that don't support SHERLOCK."

Key to SHERLOCK is that it works from within Windows application programs,
without changing the way they operate. "You never have to leave your
application programs in order to utilize the advanced document management
capabilities of SHERLOCK, " explained Sergio D. Caplan, Vice President of
Development for 2010 Software. "SHERLOCK works by simply substituting its
own save and retrieve dialog boxes for the DOS file name dialog boxes that
the application would normally use. The SHERLOCKfile management
capabilities are available directly from the application's pull-down menus
and keyboard accelerators, without the user having to run a separate
application."

SHERLOCK provides an easy way for LAN users to share work while working
within the existing network security. SHERLOCK recognizes all servers and
drives that are available to a user and maintains a local catalog of all
locally stored documents, which are synchronized with the network document
catalog. This means that a user will still have access to their local
files even if the network is temporarily down or unavailable.

SHERLOCK-stored documents are stored side-by-side with DOS files. Users can
move their DOS files into the SHERLOCK environment using Fast Import, or
when needed, individual DOS files can be moved into and out of the
SHERLOCK environment by using the Override command. Utilities are also
provided for finding and inspecting SHERLOCK-stored files while working in
DOS.

Users of SHERLOCK 1.0 and 1.1 have provided the following reports:

"We really know about the difficulties of keeping track of files using only
the DOS 8-character file names. Last week, one of our secretaries did some
word processing, and the next day 4 people spent 2 hours searching for the
file. SHERLOCK will easily payback all of its costs. " -- George Lau,
Manager of Human Resources Information Systems for Capital Cities

"SHERLOCK is absolutely showing me advantages over DOS. It's easy to work
with and runs completely transparently. " -- Jeff Edelstein, Marketing
Manager for Copiers at MCS-Cannon

"It's easier to use than what you're given with Windows, and it cleanly
fills a gap not provided by applications. It's intuitive and has been very
easy to learn. " -- William J. Chivil at Putnam/Berkeley Publishing

"It's one of the best things to come down the pipe in a long time and it's
bringing us closer to the elusive electronic office. SHERLOCK addresses a
critical need, keeping track of all our computer files. " -- Robert Lawler
at Infosystems

"SHERLOCK is a winner." -- Ed Perratore in BYTE's Essential Guide to
Windows, Spring 1993

SHERLOCK 2.0 is available for immediate shipment at the suggested retail
price of $139 for single users and $695 for a ten-station LAN-Pack. Dealer
inquiries are welcome and dealers are asked to contact Carl Sgro at (212)
887-9555. SHERLOCK runs under Windows 3.1 on any Windows-compatible PC
with an 80386 processor or better, with at least 2M bytes of RAM, and
approximately 2M bytes of free hard-disk space. For network users, it can
be installed on any Novell Netware network. For servers, 2010 Software
recommends a minimum configuration of a 386/20 and 4M of RAM. A 30-day
money back guarantee is provided.

Lawrence Stern, VP Marketing for 2010 Software, said: "SHERLOCK provides
the document management abilities that users need. In researching the
market we found that users invest up to $1000 per LAN station to achieve
similar filing and retrieval capabilities - plus some systems require a
full-time file clerk. Windows users will find SHERLOCK to be a much better
solution. "

SHERLOCK is compatible with Adobe Illustrator; Aldus Freehand, PageMaker,
Persuasion and PhotoStyler; SPC Harvard Graphics, Corel Draw, Photo, Chart
and Presents; Lotus 1-2-3, Ami Pro and Freelance; Microsoft Word, Excel,
Publisher, Notepad, Write and Paintbrush; NBI Legacy; Ventura Publisher;
Wordstar for Windows and WordPerfect for Windows.
