NOVELL AWARDS NSSI's LANSAFE II NETWARE 4.0 CERTIFICATION

First Power Management NLM Certified for Novell's Enterprise Networking

SAN DIEGO, August 18, 1993 - Network Security Systems Inc., (NSSI), a
recognized leader in network and standalone power management solutions,
today announced that it has received NetWare 4.0 Tested and Approved
certification from Novell, Inc. for it's LANSafe II NetWare Loadable
Module (NLM). NSSI's LanSafe II is the first network power management
software to pass Novell Lab's rigorous NLM testing program. NLM's are
value-added applications that run on NetWare 3.x and 4.x file servers as
an extension of the NetWare operating system.

LanSafe II, when used in combination with NSSI's Uninterruptible Power
Supplies (UPSs), provides power protection for computer networks against
conditions such as blackouts, brownouts and over/under voltage conditions
-- ensuring data integrity should a power fault occur. NSSI's unique power
management software affords any intelligent network device with an
attached NSSI UPS, including bridges and workstations, protection against
adverse power conditions. As an added benefit, system administrators can
view and control network power conditions both locally and remotely.

According to David Owen, vice president of Novell Labs, NLM developers must
pass a comprehensive series of tests to receive NetWare Tested and
Approved certification. "These tests are designed to help network
administrators choose products that have proven themselves to be well
integrated with other NLMs and the NetWare operating system," said Owen.
"NSSI 's LanSafe product has demonstrated these capabilities and we are
happy to present them with the first NetWare 4.0 certification for an NLM
in the power management field."

"Receiving Novell's NetWare certification further validates our commitment
to providing our customers with best-in-class products that help them meet
their power management needs," said Bill Humphreys, president and founder
of NSSI. "Having worked with Novell for over seven years as a Novell
Registered Developer has greatly aided in our efforts to develop
technically superior, complementary NetWare products, a direction we'll
continue to follow."

LanSafe II features include monitoring and logging of power conditions,
customizing hardware voltage settings based on actual power conditions and
system requirements, automated system-wide power testing, remote shutdown
and reboot, and unattended NetWare orderly shutdowns. Available now, the
suggested U.S. List price of LanSafe II for Novell with DOS and Windows is
$135. NSSI's family of UPSs include models ranging from 300VA/210 watts
through 1200VA/960 watts, providing power backup Protection for PCs to
larger workstations, bridges and servers. Prices begin at less than $300.
NSSI's entire line of products is backed by a full, two-year warranty
which may be extended up to five years. For additional product

NSSI's award-winning products support Novell, UNIX, Windows, OS/2, LAN
Manager, and LAN Server. NSSI's products are available through many

Tech Data and Vitek.
