Extended Systems Adds Banyan VINES Internal Network Interface Card To Its
Line

BOISE, ID, August 30, 1993 -- A new Banyan VINES network interface card for
any HP LaserJet IIIsi, 4, 4M, 4Si or 4Si MX printer will ship this week,
announced Extended Systems. ExtendNet is the easiest way to connect an HP
LaserJet anywhere on a Banyan VINES network and replaces a PC running
PCPrint, Banyan's dedicated PC solution.

This internal card and Extended Systems' external solution, the
PocketPrintServer offer Banyan VINES customers a direct Ethernet
connection that integrates seamlessly with the Banyan VINES PCPrint
service. "The reliability, ease of use and low cost make this a very
attractive alternative to the traditional PCPrint," said beta evaluator
Ken Carpenter, supervisor-desktop/network services, Northern Telecom HQ.

Improve Printing Performance and Productivity

The ExtendNet for Banyan VINES can improve printing performance by 10 to 15
times. ExtendNet allows users to take full advantage of the new LaserJet
printers' highspeed interfaces. Data is transferred in large packets
rather than one byte at a time as with a standard parallel connection.
Users can retrieve print jobs faster and increase their overall
productivity.

Support For All Ethernet Connections

Support for all three Ethernet connections on a single card allows users to
easily move printers from one office environment to another. ExtendNet for
Banyan VINES supports twisted-pair (10BASE-T), thin-wire (10BASE2) and AUI
(10BASE5).

Easy Installation and Advanced Features Help LAN Administrators Manage

"The installation was as simple as it gets. I hate documentation, so I
browsed the install notes on how to setup the PPS with VINES specific
information. I ran VPMAN, entered the VINES PCPrint service(s), user ID,
and turned it on. It took about 15 minutes from the time I opened the box
until I sent the first print job, " said Carpenter.

Also, multiple print services provide LAN administrators with the maximum
flexibility to configure their print services and encrypted passwords
allow the network to remain secure in environments which have sensitive
information. If the server goes down, ExtendNet will automatically
reconnect when the server is up and running. In addition, upgradability
preserves a company's investment.
