Academy Systems Releases CheckMaker, Check Printing Software That
Eliminates Pre-Printed Checks

Brooklyn, NY -- Academy Systems, Inc. has announced the release of
CheckMaker, a check printing program that prints the whole check --
including the MICR bank codes -- on standard laser printers. CheckMaker
interfaces to existing accounting software and can import check
information from popular packages such as Quicken, Quickbooks, One Write
Plus, etc. It can also import check information from spreadsheets and text
files. In addition, CheckMaker can interactively issue a check or print a
series of blank checks.

By printing all the bank account information on the check along with the
check detail, CheckMaker eliminates the need for pre-printed checks. This
can reduce the cost of checks by as much as 70%.

"An added benefit of CheckMaker is that it allows checks from any number of
different checking accounts to be printed without changing forms and
without maintaining different check forms for each account," says Academy
president Michael Hochman.

To allow the printing of the MICR bank information, CheckMaker makes use of
special MICR (Magnetic Ink) toner cartridges available from Academy for
most popular laser printers such as the HP LaserJet series and IBM
LaserPrinters. All special fonts that are needed are included in the
program.

Academy recently released Corporate Cheeking, an easy to use checking
management and Accounts Payable/General Ledger system which incorporates
MICR check printing to eliminate pre-printed checks. The release of
CheckMaker rounds out Academy's offerings to accommodate people who
already have an accounting package and simply need to add MICR check
printing capabilities.

CheckMaker is available in two versions:

* Version DS--supports two MICR check printing accounts, retails for $89.

* Version MS--supports an unlimited number of MICR check printing accounts,
retails for $249.

Questions & Answers About MICR Check Printing

Q: What is MICR ?

A: MICR characters are the unusual numbers and characters printed on the
bottom of all checks which identify the bank, the bank account number, and
the check number. MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The
MICR characters are printed with ink that contains particles which can be
magnetized. The bank 'reads' the information on the check by magnetizing
the MICR character line and then passing the check through a high speed
reader that translates the magnetic information into characters.

Q: What is MICR check printing ?

A: That's when you print all the MICR information at the same time that you
print the check detail(i.e. amount, payee, etc.).

Q: What advantages are there in printing MICR checks ?

A: 1- You save the cost of pre-printing checks. If you issue many checks,
the savings can be quite significant. 2- If you have multiple checking
accounts, you don't have to stock a separate check form for each account.
3- You don't have to switch check forms in your printer when switching
between different checking accounts. Academy Systems MICR check printing
software allows you to easily select the account from which to issue a
check. 4- You don't have to worry about blank checks lying around which
may be inviting fraud.

Q: Will my banks accept the MICR checks that I print ?

A: Yes. Checks printed using Academy Systems software and supplies meet all
American Bankers Association (ABA) standards for MICR check printing.

Q: What equipment and supplies do I need to print MICR checks ?

A: 1- A laser printer that accepts MICR toner. This includes all HP
LaserJets, IBM LaserPrinter series 40xx, Canon, Okidata 400/800, Ricoh
4080,4081,4150, QMS, Kyocera F-series, Alps, Sharp 9500 series, and
C.Itoh(TEC) printers. 2- MICR toner for your laser printer. 3- Blank,
perforated, colored backround check forms. All supplies are available from
Academy and from many dealers around the country.
