MIFP Development Ships ScreenSavor 3.0 Stand-Alone Application

PORTLAND, OREGON--August 4, 1993-- Responding to customer requests for a
high-quality photographic screen saver for the Macintosh that functions as
a stand-alone application rather than an INIT, MIFP Development -- More
Ideas For People -- has begun shipping ScreenSavor 3.0. The product is a
stand-alone version of its popular photograph-based module for After Dark
.

ScreenSavor 3.0 is a major step forward in the commercial screen saver
market, said David Perednia, vice president for customer relations. It
is a direct response to customer demand for a stand-alone application
which is professional, attractive and fun to use, yet avoids many of the
conflict problems associated with INIT-based screen savers. Corporate and
network manager interest has been especially high.

MIFP's line of ScreenSavor products prevent screen "burn-in" by presenting
high quality photographs by world-renowned photographers with a wide
variety of creative transitions or "display effects". Nearly a dozen
different effects are provided with the program, including jigsaw puzzles,
dissolves, random pixel replacement and more. Virtually every aspect of
image display is under user control. Users can determine the number of
images to be displayed, use of captions, display duration, types of
display effects to be used, setting for each display effect, and more.

Sophisticated User-Friendly Application Avoids System Patches and
Conflicts

ScreenSavor 3.0 functions as a start-up application rather than INIT-based
programs such as After Dark and Pyro! . As a result, no system patches
are required and INIT conflicts are less likely to occur. Many network
configurations which experience difficulty in using INIT-based screen
savers will be able to use ScreenSavor 3.0 safely. Background tasking is
fully supported. An adjustable CPU Priority setting allows other
programs to continue to run in the background while the screen saver is
running. Optional password protection is built in. System 7 is
required.

MIFP has gone to great lengths to make program operation simple and
friendly. When the computer is started, ScreenSavor launches automatically
and retires to the background until a prolonged period of inactivity.
Optional audible and visible alerts appear shortly before the screen saver
kicks in, allowing the user to prevent undesired interruptions. The
program will automatically adjust the Macintosh monitor to the highest
color depth available to give the best possible picture fidelity. There
is even a "Logo" feature which allows corporate users to include their
logo on every image the program displays.

Photo Albums Provide PICT and Multi-Disk Support

Like the After Dark module, ScreenSavor 3.0 supports the use of a users
own PICT images as well as MIFP s own collections of add-on image sets.
Images can be previewed as thumbnails and arranged by use of user
definable Photo Albums . Users can display images located on CD-ROMs,
remote hard drives and even network server machines. Licensed network
users can install image sets on a single server, with client machines
downloading selected photos only when needed to save the screen.

New Image Sets are Inspired

In concert with the 3.0 release, MIFP has begun shipping new additions to
its lineup of add-on image sets. The LifeSavors, Set #1 image set
collection includes a dozen spectacular photos, coupled with sixty
different inspiration and motivational quotations. Two separate versions
of the set are available. The "Universal" edition includes quotations
ranging from Milton and Shakespeare to Ghandi and Mark Twain. The
"Biblical" edition includes quotations from the Old and New Testaments.
The company adds an average of two to three new image sets to its
collection each month, based upon user-requested themes. Over twenty
different image sets are currently available, with themes ranging from
puppies and kittens to high-speed and aerospace photography. The
company's first CD-ROM release is expected later this month.
