NSSI ANNOUNCES SNMP POWER MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR NOVELL NMS

LanSafe II for NMS Software Extends Features of Open Development Platform

SPECIAL TO INTEROP, August 25, 1993 - Network Security Systems Inc.,
(NSSI), a recognized leader in network and standalone power management
solutions, today announced a new software package in support of Novell's
NetWare Management System (NMS). NSSI's LanSafe II for NMS, is a Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) compatible, 'snap-in' power management
application. It will enable users in an NMS environment to interactively
manage and control NSSI uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) attached to
file servers throughout the enterprise network. Novell will be
demonstrating NSSI's application at InterOp '93, August 25-27 in San
Francisco, booth #6152.

"Power protection is an important component of the total enterprise
management solution," said Dr. Navindra Jain, vice president and general
manager of Novell' s Network Management and Internentworking Products
Division. "NSSI's power management application extends the capabilities of
the NetWare Management System, improving our customer's ability to
centrally manage all aspects of their enterprise."

Tightly integrated with Novell's NMS, the LanSafe II for NMS application is
automatically initiated when NMS is loaded, making it easy for system
administrators to add power management functions to the network. Through
an autodiscovery process, NSSI's UPSs are added to the NetWare Management
Map enabling network administrators to view NSSI-protected file servers
from the NMS console. By simply clicking the UPS Map icon, users can
easily "smart" launch the LanSafe II for NMS console to graphically
display the UPS's configuration and the power parameters/conditions of the
protected server. The LanSafe II for NMS console allows system
administrators to interactively monitor and manage NSSI UPSs on the
network without having to reboot the system for configuration changes to
take effect. Audible and visible alarms warn system administrators and
users of power problems or an impending system shutdown.

"The foundation of any reliable network is power," said Bill Humphreys,
president and founder of NSSI. "As such, we've directed our efforts to
developing the industry's most comprehensive, flexible and reliable power
management system. Our focus on in-house software development, coupled
with our 'systems approach' to power management, has enabled us to achieve
a level of integration unrivaled in the industry, as evidenced by our new
LanSafe II for NMS application."

Additional features of LanSafe II for NMS include:

* Monitoring and logging of power conditions
* Customized hardware voltage settings based on actual power
  conditions
* Automated system-wide power testing
* Remote shutdown and reboot
* Unattended NetWare orderly shutdowns

List price for LanSafe II for NMS is $199.
