PROXIM WIRELESS LAN ADAPTER FIRST TO PROVIDE PCMCIA SOCKET AND CARD
SERVICES SPECIFICATION COMPATIBILITY

RangeLAN/PCMCIA Ensures "Plug-and-Play" Mobile PC LAN Capability

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 26, 1993 -- Proxim, Inc., the leading supplier
of spread spectrum-based wireless networking products, announced that its
RangeLAN/PCMCIA wireless LAN adapter, designed for the TYPE II Personal
Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) card slot in
portables, notebooks and palmtop computers, now meets the PCMCIA
specifications for Socket Services and Card Services.

Socket Services is a BIOS-level software interface that offers a means of
access to PCMCIA computer slots by identifying how may sockets are in a
computer system and detecting the insertion or removal of a PCMCIA device
while the system is powered on. PCMCIA's Card Services is a software
management interface that allows the allocation of system resources
automatically, once the Socket Services detects the addition of a PCMCIA
device. Card Services also releases these resources when the device has
been removed and provides an interface to higher level software required
for loading hardware drivers.

"Proxim led the wireless LAN industry into the world of PCMCIA with the
shipment of RangeLAN/PCMCIA earlier this year, and now, with the addition
of Socket and Card Services support, RangeLAN/PCMCIA is even easier to
use," said Rick Heller, president and CEO of Proxim. "New functionality
such as the "hot insertion" capability allows a PCMCIA c be inserted and
removed while the computer system is running. This announcement
demonstrates Proxim's commitment to providing our customers with
easy-to-use, standards-based wireless products."

Card and Socket Services, combined with hardware specifications from
PCMCIA, provides a "plug-and-play" capability in the portable computing
environment. Compliance with these specifications makes it possible to add
and remove PCMCIA devices without powering down the system, and allows for
automatic reconfiguration of the system for memory blocks, I/O ports, and
interrupt levels.

Mobile Wireless LAN Connectivity

RangeLAN/PCMCIA, the first and only PCMCIA wireless LAM adapter in the
market, provides a wireless networking solution for portable c users,
enabling them to easily set up an "instant" LAN without cable, extend
their existing LAN to mobile users and hard-to-reach places. I spread
spectrum technology, RangeLAN provides a range of up to 800 feet and
supports most popular LAN operating systems including both server-based
and peer-to-peer networks.

RangeLAN/PCMCIA's Socket and Card Services software functionality resides
on the network operating system driver which accompanies the product.
RangeLAN/PCMCIA, priced at $595, will begin shipping with this
functionality immediately.

RangeLAN adapters are available in several other form factors including
RangeLAN/ISA for servers and desktop PCs (retail $495), RangeLAN/LT for
Compaq portables (retail $595), and RangeLAN/ Parallel, which connects to
