NEC TECHNOLOGIES' INTRODUCES THE IMAGE P60; LATEST ADDITION TO THE IMAGE
SERES OF FAST GRAPHICS PCs IS BASED ON INTEL'S PENTIUM PROCESSOR AND PCI
LOCAL BUS

Atlanta, Georgia, May 24, 1993--Making yet another quantum leap in its
mission to provide advanced business users with the fastest graphics
performance of any PC workstations available, NEC Technologies, Inc. today
introduced the Image P60, an Intel Pentium processor-based extension of
its award-winning Image Series. The Image P60 is also the first NEC system
to adhere to the Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) Local Bus
Specification, which is designed to complement the performance of the
Pentium processor.

Combining the power of the Pentium processor with the high-performance of
the PCI local bus, the Image P60 provides users with superior graphics
performance for applications such as CAD, software development, and
financial analysis, as well as operating environments such as Windows NT,
OS/2 and NextStep.

"The Image P60 is by far the fastest, most powerful Intel-based PC ever
offered by NEC," said James Berrett, chief operating executive of NEC
Technologies. "The power, high performance, and technology leadership of
Intel's Pentium processor represents a true technology breakthrough. NEC
Technologies has made a significant research and development investment to
optimize our PC products to take advantage of this technology."

NEC's Image P60: A 61 bit Approach to Pentium Processor Computing

The PCI EISA-based Image P60 features a 60MHz Pentium processor with an
optimized, native 64-bit design, SIMM memory expansion up to 192MB, Fast
SCSI II, Super-I/O, and integrated audio.

In contrast to other designs that are simply modifications to existing
32-bit designs, NEC developed the Image P60 as a balanced 64-bit system
that features a native 64-bit memory bus interface, complementary burst
mode secondary cache, and powerful PCI local bus graphics that empower
users to take full advantage of the Pentium processor's ability to process
and display information.

To exploit the Pentium processor burst mode, the Image P60 includes an
optimized second-level cache architecture--a key element of a balanced
64-bit design--comprised of a standard 256KB burst mode (synchronous) 9ns
SRAM write-back cache to take advantage of the highest processing modes of
the Pentium processor to provide superior system performance.

"NEC is providing a balanced 64-bit approach as the best way to fully
exploit Pentium processor technology. by combining the power of the
Pentium processor with the versatility of the PCI Local Bus Specification,
NEC is making a total commitment to high-performance computing," said Paul
Otellini, senior vice president, Intel Corporation. "NEC is a classic
example of an organization that is investing significant research and
development resources to tap the true potential of the Pentium
processor."

NEC Continues to Lead the Way in Local Bus Video Technology

NEC, the innovator of local bus video technology in 1991, further enhances
its ImageVideo technology for the Image P60 by implementing a powerful PCI
local bus graphics subsystem that features 2MB of VRAM, 1024 x 768 high
color, a high performance graphics accelerator with linear frame buffer
and full PCI burst write support.

The industry standard PCI bus is a highly integrated I/O interface that
offers the highest performance local bus available for the Pentium
processor. The high bandwidth PCI local bus eliminates the data bottleneck
traditionally found in PC systems, while simultaneously providing users
with a clear upgrade path to future technologies to ensure investment
protection.

Unparalleled Connectivity and System Performance: Fast SCSI II and
Integrated Audio

To provide high performance and connectivity to a broad range of devices
via an intelligent standard interface, the Image P60 features an
integrated Fast SCSI II peripheral interface on the main logic board. This
integrated features provides users with maximum peripheral expansion
capability for devices such as SCSI hard drives, CD-ROM, and up to seven
external devices to the SCSI bus.

Realizing the increasing popularity of business audio capabilities
associated with Windows, the Image P60 also features integrated audio,
enabling users to add an explanation to a spreadsheet, a comment to a
memo, or an introduction to an annual report.

NEC PC Product Families:
American Designed and Manufactured

All NEC PC products, including the new Image P60, are designed and
developed at the company's extensive Boxborough, Massachusetts Research
and Development facilities, and manufactured at a state-of-the-art
manufacturing plant in nearby Northborough.

In addition to the Image Series, positioned to meet the needs of the
advanced business user, other NEC PC product families include: The Ready
family of desktop systems for the small office/home office (SoHo) user;
the PowerMate Series for the general business user; and, the Express/II
line of power EISA-based server systems for IS managers utilizing mission
critical applications.

Availability, Distribution, Pricing and Service Information

Sold through NEC's extensive nationwide network of authorized resellers,
the Image P60 will be available during the Summer of 1993. Pricing
information will be available at that time.

Purchasers of the Image P60 will be provided with an industry-leading
three-year limited warranty on all parts and labor, including first-year
on-site service and second and third-year return-to-depot service.
