NEC TECHNOLOGIES, INC. INTRODUCES A NEW LINE OF MIPS RISC--BASED SYSTEMS
OPTIMIZED TO RUN WINDOWS NT

COMDEX/Spring, Atlanta, Georgia, May 24, 1993--Meeting the growing demand
for higher performance systems specific to Windows NT, NEC Technologies,
Inc. today introduced the RISC PC Line, a series of 64-bit computers based
on the MIPS RISC architecture and the NEC VR4000 family of
microprocessors. The RISC PC, being shown at booth W8156, is the first in
a family of computers NEC is developing to utilize its advanced reduced
instruction (RISC) chip set, tailored for Windows NT.

The RISC PC Line, developed by NEC in conjunction with Microsoft, is custom
designed to enhance Windows NT performance by taking advantage of features
such as multi-tasking and multi-threaded I/O operations.

"We are excited to be working with Microsoft to provide the most
cost-effective, high-performing platform for running Windows NT," said
Mike Mitsch, manager of NEC's Computer Systems Marketing Unit. We are
committed to the MIPS RISC architecture and intend to implement NEC MIPS
RISC upgrades up to 200MHz. NEC's future plans include enhancements and
new product offerings ranging from notebook computers through
multi-processor, departmental and small business oriented servers."

NEC Chip Architecture

Custom designed and manufactured by NEC Electronics, the VR4000 is one of a
family of chips based on the MIPS architecture. This VR4000 architecture
partitions the system into four separate subsystems: processor, I/O, video
and memory. Each subsystem simultaneously employs a 25 MHz 64-bit video
bus and the CPU local bus running 50 at MHz.

High-Level Video Performance and I/O Design Features

Designed for maximum performance, the NEC 64-bit local bus provides
enhanced support for video, networking, and other performance-related
peripherals. The 64-bit CPU and 64-bit I/O master concurrently share the
200Mbyte/sec. video/memory bus.

The design supports an innovative I/O structure that uses a concurrent dual
64-bit bus master architecture to extend performance beyond traditional PC
architecture limitations. Additionally, the RISC PC takes advantage of
four 25MHz direct memory access (DMA) channels to enhance the throughput
of low-cost DMA devices including SCSI-II and networking devices.

"The RISC PC puts the power of a workstation on the desktop at prices
comparable to PCs. For the emerging client/server architecture of
computing, this technology allows for the development and deployment of
new advanced multi-tasking applications at an affordable price point,"
added Mitsch.

Pricing, Availability, Configuration and Service Information

The entry-level RISC PC will be available third quarter, pending the
official release of Microsoft's Windows NT operating System.

For a suggested retail price under $4,000, the standard configuration for
the RISC PC includes: an upgradable 100MHz VR4000PC CPU, 16KB internal
cache, 128KB secondary cache, 16MB of RAM expandable to 128MB on the
motherboard, a 170MB SCSI-II HDD, internal NEC MultiSpin 84 CD-ROM drive,
integrated local-bus video with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024, and
1MB standard video RAM, expandable to 2MB video RAM for high resolution
"true color". Also bundled is an integrated Ethernet connector, 1.44MB
3.5" FDD, keyboard and mouse. This unit comes preloaded with Microsoft
Windows NT software.

An industry-leading three-year limited warranty on all parts and labor,
including first-year on-site service and second and third-year
return-to-depot service, is included with the RISC PC Line.
