Gupta Ships Informix Connectivity; Ingres Connectivity in Beta

Informix and Ingres Users Can Take Advantage of Benefits of Gupts
SQLWindows and Quest

Menlo Park, Calif., May 3, 1993 -- Gupta Corporation continues to expand
its open systems connectivity strategy with the introduction of Gupta
SQLRouter/Informix and SQLRouter/Ingres, which provide client-server users
with seamless, fully functional access to Informix and Ingres data from
Microsoft Windows-based applications.

Gupta SQLRouter/Informix is now shipping; Gupta SQLRouter/Ingres is
currently in beta and is expected to ship in July. Both SQLRouter products
currently provide complete and fully functional access to Informix and
Ingres data for any Microsoft Windows application developd using Gupta's
SQL/API application programming interface. These include mission-critical
applications developed using Gupta SQLWindows, SQL-intensive
decision-support applications and Microsoft Windows front ends that add
functionality to existing character-based Informix and Ingres
applications. End users can use Quest 2.0 to directly access Informix or
Ingres data through SQLRouter to do their own ad-hox queries and reports.
In addition to Gupta's API, the company's connectivity strategy also
includes announced support for the ODBC, DRDA and EDA/SQL connectivity
standards.

"Companies with Informix and Ingres databases can now take full advantage
of the popular Windows GUI on PCs with a client-server system giving users
access to the database," said James Hermann, Vice President of Marketing
for Gupta Corporation. "Informix and Ingres sites can take advantage of
the exciting new features of Gupta SQLWindows 4.0 and Quest 2.0 and the
large base of developers with SQLWindows expertise. Gupta SQLRouters make
access to Informix and Ingres data possible for our current userss, too."

Gupta's SQLRouters handle database-specific functions and map client
transactions to Informix and Ingres transactions so that the specific
database is transparent to the client user. Gupta's SQL/API provides a
common interface to all database back-ends which it supports, so that
users accessing multiple databases work with a consistent interface. All
of the back-ends that are supported by Gupta's SQL/API, including Informix
and Ingres, are available to the end user with all of their native power.
In addition to Informix and Ingres, Gupta currently connects SQLWindows
and Quest applications to IBM AS/400, DB2, ORACLE Server, NetWare SQL,
IBM's OS/2 Database Manager, Microsoft/Sybase SQLServer, Cincom SUPRA, HP
ALLBASE/SQL and HP TurboIMAGE, as well as Gupta's own datbase, SQLBase
Server.

SQLRouter/Informix

SQLRouter/Informix provides full support for the complete Informix database
environment. In addition, it supports forward and backward scrolling.
Backward scrolling is not native to Informix, but with the front-end
result sets function of SQLRouter/Informix, developers can easily build
this feature into their applications. It allows users to browse forward
and backward through the results of a query without reexecuting the
query.

SQLRouter/Informix serves as a transparent interface to Informix I*Net to
link client users with Informix data. Protocol support is based on
protocols supported by Informix I*Net, which currently includes Sun
Microsystems PC-NFS v3.5, FTP Software PC/TCP v2.05, Wollongong PathWay
Access V2.0, AT&T StarGROUP v3.4, and Novell IPX/SPX for NetWare v3.11.
SQLRouter/Informix features a highly efficient SQL messaging protocol that
minimizes network traffic.

Pricing and Availability

Gupta SQLRouter/Informix is currently shipping. Gupta SQLRouter/Ingres is
currently in beta and is expected to ship in August 1993. Both are priced
at $250.00 for a single router, and, under Gupta's new server-based router
pricing plan, $1595.00 to connect an unlimited number of SQLWindows or
Quest clients to a single server. Gupta SQLRouter/Informix supports all
common versions of Informix, including Informix-OnLine v4.1, Informix-SE
V4.1 and Informix v5.0 on UNIX.
