SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE SHIPS NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHESS MANIAC 5 BILLION AND 1

Adult-Oriented Sendup of Current Chess Games Now Available for IBM
Compatibles

ALAMEDA, Calif., April 5, 1993 -- Spectrum HoloByte has teamed up with the
legendary wit of National Lampoon to produce National Lampoon's Chess
Maniac 5 Billion and 1, a bawdy, sometimes bold, always hilarious spoof of
current computer chess programs. The game, featuring live-action and 3-D
graphics in fully animated adult-oriented situations, is now available for
IBM compatibles on floppy disk and CD-ROM formats.

National Lampoon's Chess Maniac 5-Billion and 1 presents both solid chess
logic and an entertaining source of nonstop laughs. It features two basic
sets, the Bawdy and the Boring, with 10 levels of difficulty to challenge
all players from beginner to advanced.

From beginning to end, the Bawdy set pulls no punches. Players start by
choosing a computer opponent, which can be a man, woman or mountain goat
(even the Maniac is politically correct!). Then, the Bawdy set's pieces
come alive with full-motion, rotoscoped video and digitized sound to
perform dozens of hilarious skits as one piece takes another. Players will
get a kick out of the Sultan as he cruises the board in his gown and
goatee or the Belly Dancer as she performs dangerous dances including
"Death by Lambada." In all, Chess Maniac includes over 60 outlandish
skits.

National Lampoon's Chess Maniac 5 Billion and 1 also contains numerous
random animations that are designed to distract the player in various wily
ways. Take too much time to make a move, and the player is liable to lose
a piece to the Maniac's cheating shark. Warning: Escher the dog is not
house broken.

The Boring set, featuring standard Staunton pieces, is for those who wish
to play a chess game without the action of its Bawdy counterpart. But it's
really not all that boring. Backdrops transport players to exotic locales
such as a laundromat (the Maniac plays a clean game) and a graveyard
(people are just dying to play here).

Designed in a classic parody style, the Chess Maniac manual contains
instructions on playing, along with a complete description of all of the
characters players encounter throughout their grand and glorious chess
adventure. Manual highlights include a hilarious revisionist jaunt through
the history of chess and an exclusive interview with the Maniac himself.

National Lampoon's Chess Maniac 5 Billion and 1 for IBM compatibles is
available at computer retail outlets for a suggested retail price of
$69.95 for floppy disk and $59.95 for CD-ROM.

** The Maniac's a comin': Don't say we didn't warn you. **
