Gupta Targets Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase Market with Special
SQLWindows Promotion

Offer expires July 31, 1993

Menlo Park, Calif., May 19, 1993 -- Gupta Corporation announced today that
until July 31 only it would offer a full featured, unrestricted Gupta
SQLWindows 4.0 Standard Edition to registered Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server
users in the United States for $199. The offer is good for only one copy
of SQLWindows per SQL Server license.

The SQLWindows Standard Edition retails regularly for $1,995, offering
users a savings of over $1,795. Gupta will include a $250 router for SQL
Server/Sybase free of charge representing a total savings of $2,046. As
part of the same offer, the company will offer Gupta Quest for $395, a
$200 savings off the regular $595 price of Quest. Users taking advantage
of this SQLWindows offer can upgrade to the SQLWindows Corporate Edition,
which includes TeamWindows' collaborative programming abilities and one
copy of Quest, for $1,500.

Gupta SQLWindows is the leading tool for developing enterprise-wide PC
client-server applications. Gupta's special promotion offer is designed to
capitalize on this leadership position and attract a greater share of the
front end applications market among Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server users.
Until now, Gupta estimates it has captured between 10 and 15 percent of
the front end tool market for Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server.

Umang P. Gupta, president and CEO of Gupta Corporation, said, "This is an
aggressive offer providing SQL Server sites with unbeatable value for the
money. It is designed not only to market SQLWindows and Quest to the
Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server market, but to directly take on Powersoft
in SQL Server accounts. We believe that once users sample the ease with
which client-server applications can be developed with SQLWindows 4.0,
with its 'learn-as-you-go' complete object orientation and rich feature
set, that we will substantially increase the number of sites in which
SQLWindows is a front end to SQL Server."

In 1992 SQLWindows won Data Based Advisor Magazine's Readers Choice Award
far "Best Development Product" and "Best Front-End Development Product."

SQL Server customers interested in taking advantage of this offer should
