CONVERT4 NOW AVAILABLE FOR BORLAND'S PARADOX 4.0
Simplifies Application Upgrades to Paradox 4

SAN DIEGO, CA -- May 17, 1993 -- FMS, Inc. (Financial Modeling Specialists,
Inc.) announced at the Borland International Conference that Convert4 is
shipping. Convert4 is available from FMS and is specifically designed for
Borland's Paradox PC relational database.

Convert4 quickly upgrades tables from previous versions of Paradox to
Paradox 4.0. Paradox 4 offers a wide range of new features such as memo
fields, case-insensitive secondary indexes, and new validity settings. To
take advantage of these features, Paradox tables need to be converted to
the new Paradox 4 file format. While Paradox allows the conversion of one
table at a time, Convert4 automates this process by upgrading many tables
in one pass. An unlimited number of tables from an unlimited number of
directories can be selected and converted at once. Convert4 runs from
within Paradox and is entirely menu driven.

As part of the conversion process, Convert4 also upgrades all secondary
indexes to the new case-insensitive and maintained format, which improves
sorting and queries. Convert4 also checks for errors that can damage
tables. Multi-table forms and reports and even data can be destroyed if
conversion is performed improperly. Convert4 copies each table, documents
its family (forms, reports, validity settings, etc.), converts it to
Paradox 4, verifies all the family objects, then replaces the original.
Any errors detected are documented and the original table is not modified.
A summary of tables converted and errors is presented upon completion.

Paradox 4.0, a major upgrade to Borland's critically acclaimed PC-based
relational database, incorporates tremendous speed and power gains, a
windows-like user interface, enhanced network performance and expanded
Paradox Application language, PAL. Paradox is ideal for a wide range of
users from end users to applications developers.

"Convert4 simplifies the process of upgrading existing applications to
Paradox 4" said Luke Chung, President of FMS. "When we first tried to
upgrade such applications, we destroyed many multi-table forms and
reports. With Convert4 the conversion process is a snap."
