FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES NEW CLIENT/SERVER DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

SAN FRANCISCO, May 4, 1993 -- FOUNDATION, an Andersen Consulting software
organization, today announced an array of new education and enablement
services to help organizations migrate to client/server computing and to
support its new FOUNDATION for Cooperative Processing (FCP) client/server
development product announced today at DB Expo.

FOUNDATION has added 13 new education courses, ranging from FCP training
and object-oriented programming to client/server methodologies and
advanced development strategies. Courses are designed to train customers
on use of FOUNDATION products, systems development methods and design
techniques for successfully implementing complex client/server systems.

To further aid customers, FOUNDATION has developed a new Critical Resources
Group, composed of experts in client/server systems development methods,
tools and techniques. Called "catalysts," these experts work on-site with
customers' internal development organizations to provide critical input on
topics, such as multi-platform support, networks and object orientation,
which are key to building client/server applications.

"During the past two years developing client/server systems, we have
received considerable feedback from our customers," said Bruce Froehlich,
FOUNDATlON's Director of Customer Sales and Services. "Our new services
not only reflect their requirements for FOUNDATION training, but also
specifically target the most challenging areas of building client/server
systems."

New enablement offerings include FOUNDATION ServicePacks, which combine
appropriate services to enhance organizations' implementation of
FOUNDATION products. The first of these ServicePacks include: Installation
and Certification Services, which certifies completion of installed
FOUNDATION and associated LAN, operating system and application software;
and Tuning and Performance Planning Services, to improve performance of
client/server applications during the three critical stages -- design,
testing and production.

Earlier this year, FOUNDATION expanded its services by announcing an
agreement with James Martin Insight (JMI), a leading provider of
media-based products on emerging technologies. FOUNDATION and JMI will
develop and distribute a series of video-based education products to
provide technology readiness for organizations migrating to client/server
computing.

FOUNDATION also offers customers additional support services via its series
of start-up solutions, such as the successful Starter Kit, which combines
training and support services for the development of pilot client/server
systems, helping organizations begin a larger-scale migration to large
departmental and enterprise-wide client/server.

Announced today, Andersen Consulting's next-generation FOUNDATION for
Cooperative Processing (FCP) offers dramatic enhancements that ease the
process for building heterogeneous client/server systems while extending
FOUNDATlON's advanced message-based communications architecture.

Major new features of the next-generation product include:

* Rapid Application Builder, a revolutionary new approach that speeds
client/server development by utilizing simple point-and-click programming
techniques and eliminating the need for 4GLs and pseudo-code.

* an integrated LAN-based repository built on a relational database
management system

* extension of the FOUNDATION message-based communications framework to
support additional computing environments, such as UNIX (HP-UX and
ULTRIX)

* delivery of FOUNDATION as a client/server application, providing
scalability and workgroup productivity gains for systems development
teams

FOUNDATION introduced its initial client/server development product,
FOUNDATION for Cooperative Processing, in April 1991. The product is being
used in strategic client/server development projects by more than 2,800
developers at 70 companies worldwide, including Mortgage Guaranty
Insurance Corporation, Sprint Corporation, the State of North Carolina and
British Columbia Gas.
