Central Point Announces PC Tools 8.0a 

Maintenance Release of Industry-leading Product Ensures Compatibility With
MS-DOS 6

BEAVERTON, Ore.--March 29, 1993--Central Point Software, Inc. today
announced PC Tools 8.0a, which is fully compatible with Microsoft's MS-DOS
6 operating system.. The product, a maintenance update to PC Tools 8.0,
resolves known configuration conflicts resulting from new MS-DOS features
and offers users a superset of utility functions beyond what the operating
system itself provides.

PC Tools programs updated in the Version 8.0a release include Compress,
DiskFix, RAMBoost, DiskEdit and PC Cache as well as the installation
routines. The changes allow users to take full advantage of new MS-DOS
features, such as disk compression, memory management and Flexboot, while
offering comprehensive alternatives for entry-level utility programs
included with the operating system.

PC Tools provides comprehensive support for millions of computer users of
varying skill levels in both networked and standalone environments. It
offers the most complete set of award-winning utilities--including disk
and memory management, automatic backup and anti-virus protection--all
easily available through an integrated, graphical desktop.

The latest version of MS-DOS includes anti-virus technology that is
licensed from Central Point and based on its award-winning product,
Central Point Anti-Virus. MS-DOS 6 is also fully compatible with Central
Point's PC Tools for Windows, which began shipping earlier this month. PC
Tools for Windows was designed to work with MS-DOS 6 and supports it
without modification.

Pricing and Availability

Central Point PC Tools 8.0a will be available in April for a suggested
retail price of $179 through major software distributors and resellers in
the United States and Canada. Additionally, users who bought PC Tools for
DOS on or after February 15, 1993, can upgrade to 8.0a without charge by
supplying proof-of-purchase. Users who purchased PC Tools for DOS before
February 15,1993, can upgrade for $14.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
