First Place for "Best Example of Time/Money Saved" is awarded to Thomas
Bullerman, Loss Control Manager in the Property and Casualty division of
the CIGNA Corporation. Bullerman projects an estimated $100,000 of annual
savings with an application that automatically matches Loss Control
Services (LCS) professionals with appropriate clients and tailors their
credentials to match specific needs. Focused, industry-specific marketing
is a critical competitive advantage in a division where each professional
handles about 500 cases per year.

For "Best Application by a First-Time Database User," the winner is Gregory
Johnson, a general business and desktop publishing consultant. Johnson,
who has never before used a database, designed his award winning business
automation system to include full product, invoice, vendor, inventory and
customer databases. According to client company President, Linda Jackson,
virtually the entire business is now run using Approach for Windows.

First Place for "Most Creative Use of Approach for Windows" is awarded to
Don Glor, with the City of San Mateo California Fire Department. Glor has
developed powerful applications for tracking toxic chemical exposure as
well as managing cost recovery from parties responsible for emitting toxic
chemicals. Glor has also built an innovative inventory management system
in which users are presented with a visual representation of a fire truck
and can click anywhere on the vehicle to access and update inventory
information for that particular section of the truck. Although Glor won in
the "Most Creative" category, he is also a first-time database user.

Second and third place winners included users from a variety of businesses
ranging from an application that manages scheduling for the Bankcard
Division of Chase Manhattan Bank to a relational database that manages a
fleet of 225 cars for a food broker business.

"We were delighted with the overwhelming number of applications
demonstrating the innovation and productivity of our users," said Kevin
Harvey, President of Approach Software Corporation. "The number of first
time database users who had developed powerful business applications was
especially gratifying," he added.
