Sibex, Inc. announces the release of a new product in its line of PC
computer diagnostic equipment. The LP-1 Printer Tester is designed to test
and troubleshoot dot matrix and daisy wheel line printers. It works with
all parallel interface line printers.

The LP-1 can troubleshoot the computer parallel port interface. LEDs on the
test unit depict the data transfer and handshaking which occur between the
computer and the printer during a print sequence.

The LP-1 incorporates a microprocessor which has been programmed to produce
a simulated computer output sequence. With the LP-1 in this mode, the user
can test and troubleshoot printer problems without having a computer
available.

The LP-1 has numerous applications in the PC computer industry. It is used
by printer manufacturers, system installers, printer salesmen, etc. to
troubleshoot, install, test or demonstrate equipment.

* Test parallel communications between printer and computer.
* Built-in microprocessor allows LP-1 to simulate a PC computer
  output.
* Works with all line printers which utilize the standard
  parallel interface.
* Tests parallel port I/O from the computer.
* Tests the printers ability to communicate and accept data
  from a computer.

The LP-1 Printer Tester is designed to test and troubleshoot dot matrix and
daisy wheel line printers which are compatible with the standard PC
parallel port. It performs two basic series of tests, testing the
communication and data transfer capability between the devices. A built-in
microprocessor allows the LP-1 to test printers, cables and interface
boxes without the need for a computer.

Most line printers have a built-in self-test sequence which tests the
printers ability to generate characters. However, this test does not
verify that the printer is receiving the correct parallel data and the
proper communication commands from the computer, nor does it verify that
the printer is issuing the proper commands to the computer. The LP-1 tests
these functions.

The Printer Tester attaches in-line between the printer and the computer.
It performs two series of tests. It monitors the communication information
between the computer and the printer and displays the line status and
pulses as they change. Information is displayed on LEDs built into the
tester. High speed signals and pulses are latched or stretched to make
them easily readable for troubleshooting. This test allows verifying
proper operation of the computer interface, interconnect cabling and the
printer output.

The second sequence tests the printers ability to generate text if it
receives the correct instructions. This test can be performed without
having a computer available. The LP-1 Printer Tester incorporates a
microprocessor which has been programmed to simulate a computer output. In
this mode, the LP-1 will cause the printer to initially print each
character in the alphabet and then print two lines of preprogrammed text.
The test sequence will repeat continuously until stopped. This repeat
tests for intermittent problems and provides sufficient time for analysis
of the pulsing signals.

The LP-1 is housed in a hand sized plastic case. It comes with male and
female DB-25 connectors for easy attachment to the parallel port. An
external 110VAC power supply and detailed instruction manual are provided
with each unit.

Units are available from stock, priced at $249.00 each.
