CD-ROM Driver Support for Kodak Photo CD Ready to Roll
OMI Driver Allows Macintosh Users to Access Photo CD Discs

San Francisco, CA (January 3, 1993) - Optical Media International (OMI)
today announced that it has developed a new version of its OMCD device
driver enabling Macintosh CDROM drives to read Kodak Photo CD compact
discs. This software allows users of the popular Kodak Photo CD technology
to access, manipulate, and use Photo CD electronic images via the many
tools available on the Macintosh for imaging, desktop publishing,
multimedia, and presentation graphics. OMCD even supports playback of
"multi-session" Photo CDs (discs that have had photographic images
recorded in several stages) on drives, such as the Toshiba XM-3301, whose
hardware supports this kind of playback. Until Version 1.5 of OMCD was
developed, there has been a lack of generally available CD-ROM drivers
supporting access of Photo CD discs. The retail price for OMCD 1.5 is $79
with quantity discounts; OMCD is available for OEM licensing as well.

The many features of OMCD 1.5 make it particularly valuable due to the
breadth of applications currently finding their way to compact discs. OMCD
supports playback of both audio and data contained on CDs. Control of
audio volume and the ability to read important fields on CDs that are
normally inaccessible such as the Media Catalog Number (MCN) and the
Standard Recording Code (SRC) are also featured in OMCD 1.5. The OMCD
driver supports "Foreign File Access" as defined by Apple. This feature in
the Macintosh operating system allows for support of non-HFS CDs by
format-specific "access files" stored in the system folder. Currently,
there are four types of foreign access: Audio CD, High Sierra, ISO 9660,
and Apple Photo (for Photo CD).

CD-ROM drives for the Macintosh supported by OMCD 1.5 include the AppleCD
SC, AppleCD SC Plus, AppleCD SC 150, Toshiba XM-2100A, Toshiba XM-3301BC,
Sony CDU-6111, Sony CDU-6121, Denon DRD-253, and the Hitachi CDR-1553S.
OMCD also supports the Kodak PCD Writer 200 and the Philips CDD-521 CD
Recorders in playback mode.

Optical Media International is a privately held firm headquartered in Los
Gatos, California, founded in 1985. A pioneer in the CD-ROM industry, OMI
developed the first PC-based CD-ROM premastering system, the first
PC-based multiformat CD recording system, the first Macintosh-based CD
premastering and CD recording system, and the first CD-ROM XA premastering
system.
