FARGO INTRODUCES A NEW LOW-COST THERMAL TRANSFER COLOR PRINTER

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN - The first thermal transfer color printer at a cost below
that of ink jet was recently announced by FARGO Electronics,
Incorporated.

The new Primera Color Printer delivers full-color page printing from all
IBM-PC's and compatible computers running Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or
higher). Suggested retail price is $995.00, which is $100.00 less than
Hewlett Packard's DeskJet 550C ink jet printer and three times lower than
the currently least expensive thermal transfer color printer.

"This is the first major advance in the price and performance of color
printers in a long time," said Mark D. Strobel, FARGO's Vice President of
Sales and Marketing. "Primera is the first color thermal transfer printer
that combines high quality performance with a low price, making the
superior output qualities of thermal transfer finally attractive to the
mass market."

FARGO enters the mainstream PC market from its position as one of the
world's leading suppliers of bar code printers used by manufacturers to
print labels and tags. The same state-of-the-art thermal transfer
technology used in FARGO's bar code printers is also utilized in its new
Primera Color Printer.

The market for desktop color printers is expected to triple to more than
$2.8 billion in 1995 from about $987 million today, according to BIS
Strategic Decisions, a leading computer industry research firm. BIS
projects that the market will grow 27 percent annually over the next five
years from a base of about 150,000 desktop color printers which are
expected to be sold in 1992.

FARGO demonstrated its Primera Color Printer for the first time at Fall
COMDEX 1992. Deliveries of the new color printer began January 1, 1993 .

In addition to its low initial cost, Primera is far less expensive to
operate than many other color printers. Primera's cost per page is a
constant $.45. With 25% page coverage or more, Primera's cost is less
expensive than ink jet. At 50% to 100% page coverage, which is common in
business presentation graphics, cost per page is up to three times less
than ink jet.

Primera is also much faster than the leading ink jet printers. A full page
with 100% coverage is printed in just over two minutes, compared with four
to seven minutes for the same page using ink jet.

This significant price/performance breakthrough is a result of FARGO's 15
years of experience as a printer manufacturer and its decision to
streamline the printer by omitting 3 such costly and often unnecessary
features as PostScript, multiple resident fonts, high-powered processors
and large banks of RAM memory. In particular, PostScript was eliminated
because Primera is a Windows GDI printer that supports True Type fonts.

"We use the computing power of today's PCs and the Windows' operating
system to perform all of the complex, processor-hungry and RAM intensive
tasks. The result of this approach is a high quality color printer that
performs 100% of the tasks required by 95% of most business graphics
applications," Strobel said.

The Primera Color Printer is targeted at the estimated 10 to 12 million
Windows users who use graphs, diagrams, pie charts, illustrations and
other graphics for use as presentation materials or overhead
transparencies.

"In addition to business - our largest potential market - there has been a
great deal of interest in Primera among advertising agencies and smaller
design firms that do not need the extra features built in to all of the
other thermal transfer printers," Strobel said.

A software driver for Windows 3.1 is included with every Primera Color
Printer, enabling business people to begin using the machine immediately
with no complicated setup. Primera prints on both letter and A4-size paper
and transparencies. The printer uses a wax-based thermal ink ribbon for
color applications. A monochrome ribbon is also available for economical
text-only printing.

Primera will be initially distributed nationally by three distributors:
Ingram Micro, Inc. (Santa Ana, CA), Robec Distributors (Horsham, PA), and
Wynit, Inc. (Syracuse, NY). FARGO has also established a toll-free
information and dealer referral number: 1-800-FARGO-22 (1-800-327-4622).
