OBJECTIVE SOFTWARE AND BRIO TECHNOLOGY TEAM UP TO CLOSELY INTEGRATE
PRODUCTS

Innovative Technologies Provide Robust Client/Server Data Analysis
Solution

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, APRIL 5, 1993 -- Objective Software, Inc. and Brio
Technology today announced a joint technology agreement to provide close
integration between SpreadBase, the first business analysis tool for
client/server computing, and DataPrism, the leading data access query tool
for the Apple Macintosh.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will codevelop
complementary data access and data analysis technologies to offer a
complete client/server business modeling solution. Objective Software will
market and sell SpreadBase 1.1 and DataPrism 2.1 as a bundled product.

SpreadBase and DataPrism

SpreadBase is the first Category-Based Modeling tool. Category-Based
Modeling allows users to deal with higher-level groups of information
called "categories," which in turn control the behavior of individual data
elements. SpreadBase users are therefore able to focus on high-level
analysis, and are free from focusing on the details.

DataPrism is a graphical ad hoc query tool which enables non-technical
users to access corporate databases without programming. Through a
point-and-click interface, DataPrism allows users with no knowledge of SQL
to extract full value from local and remote relational databases.
DataPrism understands relationships between tables, permitting
easy-to-build queries.

Objective/Brio Agreement

Key product developments include:

* Direct access between SpreadBase and DataPrism queries
  and documents;
* DataPrism enables SpreadBase full access to a vast range
  of server data managers, via all major connectivity APIs;
* Data comes directly via DataPrism into SpreadBase with no
translation or loss of metadata information upon import.

Richard Melmon, CEO of Objective Software, stated, "The real benefit is to
the customer. We're providing two products that act as a one-stop source
to overcome the real difficulties in making client/server data analysis
work. With Brio's DataPrism, the desktop business analyst will not have to
learn SQL or jump through hoops to get at that crucial data, but is free
to focus on business decisions."

SpreadBase's access to DataPrism allows transfer of data from server
database management systems as Structured Data Objects. These Objects pass
not just data values, but field names and types as well. By maintaining
the data's structure, it can be easily merged with existing models.
Importing to a spreadsheet involves stripping away the imported data's
structure, severing the important data connection between host and
client.

"The data accessed by DataPrism and imported to SpreadBase will retain its
'memory'," explained Yorgen Edholm, CEO of Brio Technology. "Since
SpreadBase is the premier data analysis tool for the flexible analysis of
structured data, this relational integrity is vital to fully exploiting
the robust functionality of SpreadBase's Category-Based Modeling."

Availability

The products will be bundled and available by May, 1993, at an introductory
price of $695. Objective and Brio anticipate making the products available
through the companies' direct sales forces as well as an 800 number.
Training and consulting services will be available from both companies'
support and application engineering staffs.

DataPrism is currently available on both the Macintosh and Windows.
SpreadBase for Windows is currently in development and will ship in 1993.

Brio Technology

Brio Technology, Inc. was founded in 1984. Brio provides cross-platform
software for desktop data access in the client/server enterprise. Brio's
tightly integrated family of products enable non-technical end-users to
query, analyze, and update corporate databases from Macintosh and Windows
desktop computers. The company is headquartered in Mountain View,
California.

Objective Software

Objective Software was founded in 1988 to deliver advanced business data
analysis tools for client/server computing. Objective Software's
SpreadBase is the first client/server business data analysis tool that
provides flexible analysis of relational data, offering significant
productivity gains to business users. SpreadBase is based on a new
software technology, Category-Based Modeling, which allows users to create
and maintain dynamic data models -- models that are defined and
manipulated at the highest level, by category.
