CMC Introduces MPC Beyond The Wall Of Stars--A New Multimedia Adventure By
R. A. Montgomery

LAS VEGAS, NEV., NOVEMBER 16, 1992--CMC today introduced the Multimedia
Personal Computer (MPC) version of Beyond the Wall of Stars, the first in
CMC's Taran Trilogy of CDROM-based multimedia interactive adventures. R.
A. Montgomery, author of Beyond the Wall of Stars, is the author and
creator of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure series of books published by
Bantam. The series has become popular with children and young adults
because it allows them to explore the consequences of different plot
twists and endings--hence the "choose your own adventure" series title.
Since their initial publication in 1980, the world-wide sales of
Montgomery's books now exceed 40 million copies. The series has been
translated into 38 languages. One of Montgomery's adventures, Case of the
Silk King, has been produced for ABC television.

"CD-ROM is a fantastic way to enhance the experience of the adventure,"
noted Montgomery. "The ability to provide animation, high-quality graphics
and multiple options that simulate different twists and turns in the story
give an author an entirely new kind of medium in which to work. It also
stimulated my creativity, and Beyond the Wall of Stars is a richer and
more challenging product as a result."

Simulated journey to a planet beyond recently discovered galaxies

Beyond the Wall of Stars involves the user in a perilous future journey to
the planet Tara. The explorer's existing planet-Celadon-is in trouble and
needs help. Tara is a recently settled planet far beyond the Great Wall of
Stars, a belt of galaxies only recently discovered by new, high powered
radio telescopes, that provides a potential source of help. In the
multimedia animated adventure, each user becomes involved in an expedition
team to reach Tara--a source of hope and leadership.

Early in Beyond the Wall of Stars, participants "qualify" for the voyage by
describing their personal characteristics, which the program then factors
into the situations that develop for participants during the voyage. Along
the way, the voyager faces a series of critical decisions about direction,
strategy, tactics and teamwork in the form of decisions, games, puzzles
and other problem solving techniques. The choices produce results ranging
from positive to drastic.

Beyond the Wall of Stars introduces new kind of multimedia adventure

Beyond the Wall of Stars is the first CMC product to include
three-dimensional animation, powerful full color graphics, sound, games,
simulations and text to involve the user in the adventure. Beyond the Wall
of Stars introduces a new vocabulary and extensive references to concepts
of science and mythology. It also includes an "Electronic Bookmark" that
allows the user to save the adventure at any point along the journey.
Thus, users can experiment with various options and still return to a
particular decision point.

"We believe Beyond the Wall of Stars combines the benefits of books and
television to create a new form of adventure," noted John A. Calhoun,
CMC's president. "Beyond the Wall of Stars users develop vocabulary, learn
scientific concepts, and simulate strategies while engaging in challenging
and stimulating play."

Beyond the Wall of Stars is the first in the planned Taran Trilogy. The
second title, currently in development, will cover the participant's
adventures on Tara: the third will deal with the return from Tara.

Beyond The Wall Of Stars will be shown at CMC's booth-- #B742--at
COMDEX/Fall in Las Vegas November 16-20, 1992.

Beyond the Wall of Stars has a suggested list price of $49.99 (U.S.). It is
being marketed to consumers, schools and institutions through CMC's
growing network of distributors and retailers. Beyond the Wall of Stars
complies fully with the MPC specification. The minimum PC configuration is
a machine with at least a 386SX processor, 2 MB of RAM, a 30 MB hard disc,
and a VGA or VGA+ display. A CD-ROM drive is required. Microsoft Windows
3.1 or 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions is required and serves as the
interface for the MPC specification. An Apple Macintosh version of the
CD-ROM is also available.

Founded in 1987, CMC provides a range of multimedia compact disc
read-only-memory (CD-ROM) products for use with personal computers and
products for Sony's Data Discman "electronic book". Other CMC products
