Modular Software Systems Announces BOOTCON 2.0.
MS-DOS 6.0 Compatible, Mouse Support and More

(February 22, 1993) -- BOOTCON 2.0, a new version of the popular boot-time
configuration utility, will be available April 1, 1993 from Modular
Software Systems of Kent, Washington.

New version, BOOTCON 2.0, is compatible with Microsoft's MS-DOS 6.0,
supports a mouse, and is easier to use than the previous version.

Now BOOTCON 2.0 lets users create up to 100 different system configurations
and easily choose between them at boot-time. Previously, users were able
to select up to 26 different user-defined system configurations. Users no
longer have to juggle multiple AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to create
the perfect operating environment for a given task. With BOOTCON 2.0, a
user can employ one configuration for a laptop, one for Microsoft Windows,
one for running graphics applications, and one for specialized hardware --
without manually reconfiguring the system for each task.

In addition to providing MS-DOS 6 compatibility, BOOTCON 2.0 can serve as a
front-end for the DOS 6.0 configuration manager and is fully compatible
with Stac Electronics Stacker and AddStor, Inc.'s SuperStor. The new
version reduces memory usage and in most cases uses no memory. BOOTCON 2.0
also allows users to manipulate files other than CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT and allows password protection of individual configurations
in addition to system-level password protection.

BOOTCON 2.0's new menu-based front end simplifies the process of adding,
renaming, copying, deleting, and editing configurations. Users can now
create a standalone configuration, which is useful for installing new
software or working with programs such as Quarterdeck's Optimize. For
ease-of-use, BOOTCON 2.0 automatically integrates and maintains changes
made to the standalone configuration into a master configuration. Another
time-saving new feature is the ability to name sections of code (called
INCLUDEs) and to load INCLUDEs by name in several different
configurations.

BOOTCON 2.0 retains the basic functions, simple installation, and
ease-of-use that were popular in the original version. Like its
predecessor, BOOTCON 2.0 lets users pre-define different system
configurations for different tasks. A user boots the machine and selects
the desired configuration from the BOOTCON menu. BOOTCON 2.0 then loads
the appropriate configuration. To switch to a task requiring a different
configuration, the user simply reboots, selects a new configuration, and
is back up and running with a new system configuration in seconds.

BOOTCON 2.0 also simplifies troubleshooting and system integration by
allowing users to isolate individual applications or devices. The program
includes an auto-boot utility so users can easily set up automated
procedures (such as batch files) to reboot, and then auto-select a
specific configuration. New version BOOTCON 2.0 also has the ability to
switch between both MS-DOS and OS/2 operating systems, and is compatible
with the DR-DOS operating system.

BOOTCON 2.0 has a suggested retail price of $79.00 and is available
directly from Modular Software Systems. Registered users can upgrade for
$28.00, plus shipping/handling directly from Modular Software Systems.
