OBJECTIVE LAUNCHES SURESTART CUSTOMER SUPPORT SERVICE

SureStart Customer Service to Provide Innovative Business Solutions

REDWOOD CITY, CA, JANUARY 6,1993 -- Objective Software, Inc. today
announced SureStart, a new customer solution service designed to assist
corporate customers in evaluating, adopting, and integrating new business
analysis technology. Objective's SureStart program offers on-site training
and application consulting services for new customers designed to
accelerate progress towards solutions to mutually identified business
analysis needs. Objective recently shipped SpreadBase for the Apple
Macintosh, the first Category-Based Modeling software which delivers new
capabilities to the desktop PC user, such as the ability to create and
maintain dynamic business models that respond instantly to change.

SureStart supports customers in evaluating and applying Category-Based
Modeling to meet business analysis needs. The service reduces the
customer's cost of evaluation and training, while shortening the time
frame for implementing applications to increase productivity and
accelerate decision making.

How SureStart Works

In an initial meeting, Objective and the customer define the customer's
current needs for advanced business modeling technology, and determine how
a Category-Based Modeling tool can provide a business solution. Once an
appropriate application is determined, Objective and the customer decide
on a customized set of training activities within the SureStart program.
Prices for SureStart vary based on the number of days and the number of
products included. SureStart features include: copies of SpreadBase,
on-site training classes ranging from introductory level to advanced
users, custom training, problem analysis, application building, and
follow-on services with application engineers available for consultation.

"Strong vendor support during the product evaluation and learning process
is extremely valuable to large corporations," explains Dennis Hunter, a
group IS manager with Eastman Kodak. "By providing a solid program such as
SureStart, Objective has demonstrated a clear understanding of its
customers' needs. As with our experience when adopting Notes, Objective
worked with us in partnership to deliver quantifiable bottom-line benefits
-- such as rapid and efficient product deployment that saved us a lot of
time and wasted effort."

"Our goal is to provide enterprises with more than just a product. This is
a time when customers are overwhelmed with the time and cost involved in
evaluating and deploying new products," states Richard Melmon, Objective's
president and CEO. "As more and more sophisticated business software is
being developed for desktop computers, companies need an efficient and
cost-effective way to choose the right tools and applications. We are
providing business solutions and partnerships with our on-site product
education and application consulting services. Objective knows that for
corporations to adopt new and more complex technology, customers need a
way to evaluate and determine if it will meet their needs before they make
a significant investment. SureStart compresses the time and cost to
customers for exploring and adopting new technology on the desktop."

SpreadBase and Category-Based Modeling

SpreadBase, the first Category-Based Modeling tool was developed to meet
the needs of business analysts for tools that can deal more effectively
with fast-paced change in today's business environment. When using
spreadsheets, business analysts are forced to manually relocate and
readjust text and numeric data and formulas as business information
changes. SpreadBase, the result of more than three years of research and
development, utilizes Category-Based Modeling to permit changes to the
data -- or the way the data is viewed -- without any of the tedious
row-and-column hand editing and relinking associated with similar changes
within existing spreadsheets. In a Category-Based Modeling tool, data and
related information -- formulas, formats, and rollups -- are referenced
logically by Category rather than physically by cell location. Because
SpreadBase allows models to be defined logically, changes to data and
formulas are applied to all CategoryBased views and summaries
automatically. Category-Based modeling is possible because SpreadBase is
built on top of an internal relational database.

SpreadBase Requirements

SpreadBase requires a 32-bit architecture and supports Macintosh II series,
Macintosh Quadra series, SE/30, or Apple PowerBook 170 personal computers
(and above) running Apple system software 6.07 or later. A Motorola 68881
or 68882 math co-processor is required. SpreadBase for the Macintosh has a
list price of $695. Volume discounts are available to large corporate
buyers.

SpreadBase for Windows is currently in development and will debut in 1993.
