NSSI INTRODUCES LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows

First Integrated Power Management Software for Networks with Windows
Workstations

San Diego, Jan 22, 1993 - Network Security Systems, Inc., (NSSI) today
announced LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows, an
extension of its LanSafe II network power management product line. LanSafe
II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows offers a solution to the loss
of data in volatile memory associated with power failures on workstations
running Microsoft Windows. It is the first network power management
software that provides a completely integrated approach for centrally
managing electrical power to all local and remote network components.
Unlike existing systems that only monitor uninterruptible power supplies
(UPSs) on servers, LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows
provides interactive management and control of NSSI's intelligent power
systems (IPS/A I) on all key network components, including data and
communications servers, bridges, critical workstations and file servers.

LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows incorporates a
graphical user interface which allows network administrators to get one,
quick look at the entire network to see that all power protection
components are working and to identify potential power problems.
Administrators can monitor, manage and configure every power protection
node from any workstation on the network, including those at remote
sites.

"As the global business environment continues to demand increased system
performance and user productivity, multi-tasking environments are becoming
the workhorse of the computing environment," said Bill Humphreys,
president of NSSI. "And in a multi-tasking environment, unlike a DOS
environment, more of the data resides in the computer's volatile memory
leaving any number of files open and vulnerable to a power failure. The
risk of interrupting computer processes and losing data not yet written to
a non-volatile storage medium is greatly increased. That is why NSSI has
come out with LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows, a
fault tolerant solution that preserves the integrity, reliability, and
productivity of the entire network system."

Using the LanSafe II console, administrators can troubleshoot power
problems and monitor real-time loads, battery and voltage status.
Pull-down menus provide the ability to change power and program settings,
conduct network-wide tests, reboot or shut down nodes and view historical
power event logs.

If a prolonged power outage occurs, the system will begin an orderly
shutdown of the entire network, including Microsoft Windows workstations,
guaranteeing data integrity and the ability to quickly restore the system
when power returns. Automatic daily hardware self-testing and software
controlled preventive maintenance procedures provide for increased system
life and reliability.

The new LanSafe II network power management features include:

* automatic and orderly shutdown of network devices without the need for
manual intervention -- critical to managing data integrity in a
multi-tasking environment;

* total power management of every network device, including bridges, file
servers and workstations (the only system with this depth of capability);

* real-time configuration management of operating parameters, such as
voltage ranges, for every device without shutting down or rebooting the
system;

* exclusive "PowerPro" feature for setting upper and lower voltage limits,
thus customizing the hardware operation to local power conditions and
preserving battery capacity;

* management console, with graphical controls, that allows power management
for the total network (up to 1,024 nodes) by network branch, by device
types, or by a single node; and

* on-line, context-sensitive help for all console functions.

The Microsoft Windows family of power management software and NSSI's line
of Intelligent Power Systems combine to provide a complete fault tolerant
system. The IPS/A.I. models include the recently announced 300 and 450
models for workstations as well as the 600, 800 and 1200 models, which
protect servers and communication devices.

The U.S. list price of LanSafe II for Novell NetWare with Microsoft Windows
is $249 for new installations and $165 for customers upgrading from
LanSafe/A.I.+ and will be available in February.

NSSI is recognized as the leading market innovator in network and
standalone power management solutions. Its award-winning Intelligent Power
System hardware and LanSafe family of software also support Novell, OS/2,
LAN Server, LAN Manager, UNIX and other leading operating systems. For
