NBC, IBM, NBC AND NUMEDIA ANNOUNCE MULTIMEDIA BUSINESS COMMUNICATION PILOT

NEW YORK, Nov. 11 -- IBM, NBC and NuMedia Corporation today announced a
joint agreement for a market test of a revolutionary new multimedia
business news and information service that will allow users to access
current business, market and industry-specific news through their desktop
personal computers. The joint agreement draws on the extensive news
gathering and processing capabilities of NBC, CNBC, IBM's multimedia
products, technology and field support, and NuMedia's patented multimedia
delivery network and authoring tools for broadcast news and information
services.

The proposed service, NBC Desktop News, integrates text, graphics, video
and sound in an easy-to-use, concise format, with a look much like that of
television news. The service is designed for corporate users who need the
latest news and information on demand, but who don't have hours to comb
through the diverse range of news and information sources available to
businesses today. NBC Desktop News will automatically review in-coming
video, text and other data bases, and based upon each subscriber's
profile, will create a customized mix of news and information.

NBC Desktop News will include business and financial market news as a base
subscription service. Additional, industry-specific news and information
tiers can be customized according to each corporate user's requests.
Typical of the general business and market news that will be available to
users will be segments of no longer than two minutes, that are
continuously updated throughout each day. Corporations may also subscribe
to industry-specific news segments in such areas as pharmaceutical,
computer, and financial.

National, international, local, weather news and traffic reports are
additional options under development.

"The bombardment of news and information available each day is staggering,"
said Tom Rogers, President, NBC Cable and Business Development and
Executive Vice President, NBC. "This pilot marks a key step in our ability
to cut through the clutter and deliver news and information to
corporations and government offices, areas traditionally underserved by
broadcast television and cable. Being able to recall the exact type of
information users seek is an important feature in this pilot test," Rogers
added.

In addition to the base business news service, and industry specific news,
subscribers will be able to incorporate their own corporate news and
training information into NBC Desktop News service.

IBM's pilot demonstrates our vision to deliver information any place, at
any time, in all its forms," said Michael A. Braun, IBM Assistant General
Manager, Multimedia. "Our technology is a key element of this test, and
our business and government customers are ideal prospects for this
service."

Subscribers to the pilot will receive programming via satellite to the
participating site(s). Broadcast, fiber optic and cable delivery systems
may also be used in the future. Both digital and analog versions of the
service will be evaluated during the pilot test. For the digital version,
the information will be downlinked and stored in a PS/2 Model server with
OS/2 2.0 for distribution to PCs on either Token-Ring or Ethernet local
area networks (LAN). For the analog version, IBM will provide PS/2 TV and
F-couplers that will connect to existing building wiring, such as shielded
twisted pair and co-axial cable. NBC Desktop News is supported by either
DOS, Windows or OS/2 2.0.

NuMedia's patented Desktop TV (DTv) system provides the software to access
the news services with options to customize the content through the PS/2
server for each PC user's desktop.

"Multimedia news and training offers organizations a backbone of
communication capability to address productivity and quality issues. The
technology offers complete flexibility for each corporation and individual
users," said Arthur Esch, NuMedia's chairman and chief executive officer.

NuMedia is a privately-held multimedia development company based in
Alexandria, Va.

The market pilot to determine customer requirements will run from December
1992 through mid-1993.
