AUTODESK SHIPS NEW IGES TRANSLATOR FOR AutoCAD RELEASE 12

MILFORD, Ohio, November 10, 1992 - Autodesk, the leading CAD software
company, announced today that before the end of November it will be
shipping a new AutoCAD IGES Translator, which supports IGES (Initial
Graphics Exchange Specification) 5.1. An English-language version will be
available in North and South America through Authorized AutoCAD Dealers
and Distributors for a suggested retail price of US$1200. The new
Translator dramatically improves the quality of data transfer between
AutoCAD software and other CAD systems, and can be used with either the
Sun SPARCstation or DOS 386 version of AutoCAD Release 12.

The new AutoCAD IGES Translator was developed in conjunction with
International TechneGroup Incorporated (ITI) and is based on ITl's
IGES/Lib software development tool kit. ITI is internationally known for
its data exchange expertise in the development of IGES translators and
IGES "flavoring" software. The use of IGES/Lib provides an effective
migration path to the STEP standard as it becomes available.

"This is a world class translator, one with greatly increased
functionality, accuracy, and flexibility" said Len Rand, vice president of
Autodesk's Design Automation Group. "In today's complex design and
engineering environments, it allows suppliers and contractors to
efficiently exchange data and speed the design process. Within companies,
it also allows workgroups to employ AutoCAD as part of an overall
concurrent engineering program, where communication of design and
manufacturing data across departments and disciplines is crucial. And, for
many of our customers, it eliminates the need to use several direct
translators, recreate geometry unnecessarily, or laboriously convert a 3D
model into a series of separate 2D views before translating - a process
that can literally take days."

"IGES is the established standard for transferring CAD/CAM data today,"
stated Don Hemmelgarn, vice president and director of ITl's Product Data
Exchange Business. "AutoCAD customers now have complete, production-worthy
IGES translation capabilities unlike anything they have seen in the past.
The new translator dramatically improves data exchange with workstation
and mainframe CAD systems."

Predefined options sets are provided as baseline or default settings for
use with CATIA and CALS classes I (Technical Illustration), 11
(Engineering Drawings), and IV (Manufacturing) - additional options sets
tailored for other CAD vendor products will be made available in the
future. The Translator can export and import CALS-compliant class 1, 11,
and IV files and drawings. (To export CALS-compliant files, customers must
adhere to CALS regulations in the formulation of drawings and use the
provided option sets.)

In addition, the Translator offers:

* Improved translation of curve and surface approximations
  to user-definable tolerances
* GUI (Graphical User Interface) dialogue-box control of
options and option set creation and management
* Single- or batch-file processing
* Support for import of multiple drawings per file
* Audit trail (log-file reporting)
* Support for perspective and rotated views
* On-line help

ITI is recognized as the international leader providing Concurrent Product
and Manufacturing Process Development (CP/PD) services and related
software products. CP/PD is more than another acronym for concurrent
engineering or simultaneous engineering. CP/PD is the "next generation"
capability that will differentiate 21st century manufacturing winners from
losers. By focusing on parallel team development processes, integrated
computer systems and lean implementation strategies through the entire
product and manufacturing process development life cycle, clients are
implementing shorter development cycles (shorter time to market), while
achieving world class product quality and cost. The iTI Family of
Companies multi-platform software products, consulting, engineering and
educational services provide clients with a full range and depth of
technical knowledge and experience, unsurpassed by any known global
competitor.

Autodesk develops, markets, and supports a family of computer-aided design,
engineering, multimedia, and scientific software products for desktop
computers and workstations. Autodesk shares are traded on NASDAQ under the
symbol ACAD. For more information, please call 415-332-2344 or type GO
