AMT INTRODUCES DUAL-HEAD LOW-COST PRINTERS

CAMARILLO, CA--Advanced Matrix Technology, Inc. (AMT) has introduced four
new dot-matrix printers each containing two 9-wire printheads. The new
printers, named the AMT ACCEL-290 series, print at 540 characters per
second (cps), which is twice as fast as competing dot-matrix printers with
only one printhead. Instead of using only one printhead to print an entire
page, the AMT ACCEL-290s use one printhead to print the left side of the
page while simultaneously using the other to print the right. Using two
printheads in this way provides two very important benefits: doubled
throughput and doubled printhead life.

"Think of an ACCEL-290 as two printers for the price of one," said David
Beardsley, AMT's Vice-President of Sales. "Each printhead only performs
half the work, so the printer will produce pages twice as fast. AMT
designed the 290 series for users that demand exceptionally fast yet
low-cost printing solutions." The AMT ACCEL-290s are the only dual-headed
dotmatrix printers offered in the industry for under $1,000.

The AMT ACCEL-290s are fully compatible with both Epson and IBM/Lexmark
printers, so they plug-and-play with virtually all PC software including
Microsoft Windows. There are no special software drivers required for
dual-head printing, since separating the data among the printheads is
performed by the printer. In fact, the user does not have to do anything
at all to get dual-head printing--it is completely automatic!

The AMT ACCEL-290 series consists of four different models: the ACCEL-292
and ACCEL-292d, which are 85-column printers; and the ACCEL-294 and
ACCEL-294d, which are 136-column printers. The two 85-column models are
unusual in that they actually produce an 8.5-inch print line on the page,
enabling users to print edge-to-edge on letter-size paper. Most competing
foreign-made printers are capable of only 80 columns per line. The 292d
and 294d models are also unusual since they each contain a motorized
demand-document bottom feeder that enables forms fed from the bottom of
the printer to be torn off without wasting the next form.

All AMT ACCEL-290 printers come with AMT's patented Select-dial control
panel, which BYTE Magazine called "the slickest interface of all
[dot-matrix printers]." The Select-dial is a very user-friendly way to set
printing parameters, load paper and align forms. ACCEL-290 printers come
standard with three paper paths: top for cut sheets, and rear and bottom
for pin-fed paper. Also, the 292d and 294d models let users load paper
into the rear and bottom paper paths at the same time and then alternately
use zero-forms tear-off (demand document) from both paper paths. All
ACCEL-290s include serial and parallel interfaces.

To complement the AMT ACCEL-290 printers, AMT offers single-, double- and
triple-bin sheetfeeders for most printer models, and roll-feed options.
These paper handling accessories are priced from $95.

The AMT ACCEL-290 series printers are affordably priced from $795 and are
sold by authorized AMT Dealers and OEMs. AMT can customize printers to
meet most OEM and enduser requirements. For more information, please
