Trantor Systems Introduces
High-Performance, Low-Cost 16-Bit SCSI Host Adapter Kits

COMDEX Fall'92, Las Vegas, NV -- November 16, 1992 -- Trantor Systems today
announced its new line of 16-bit SCSI Host Adapters: the T160 and T160F
for ISA-bus computers and the T260 for Micro Channel systems. All three
boards were conceived in response to customer needs for low-priced, yet
high-performance 16-bit SCSI interfaces.

The T160 and T160F are compatible with any 80286, 386 or 486 system, and
will happily coexist with other MFM, RLL, ESDI, IDE or SCSI controllers
already present in the system. Performance up to 3 MB/sec is possible on
fast systems. The T160F includes all the features of the T160, and adds
floppy disk support for both 3-1/2" and 5 1/4" high and low-density
diskettes. Up to four floppy drives are supported simultaneously,
depending on the computer's BIOS ability to support more than the standard
two drives.

The T260 is the smallest Micro Channel SCSI host adapter available, and
easily fits into even the IBM Model 70 Portable computer's short slot. On
fast Micro Channel computers, performance up to 3.2 MB/sec is possible.

The new products are based on Trantor's new T101 SCSI controller ASIC.
Designed in partnership with National Semiconductor, this highly
integrated surface-mounted chip results in a very low parts count for high
performance and high reliability at a low price. All three also include
both internal and external SCSI connectors (the external connector is
pin-compatible with those used on Apple's Macintosh computers, for easy
cabling) as well as fused termination power and a BIOS ROM to support up
to two SCSI drives without additional software driver support. System
bootup is possible from SCSI device 0, 1 or 2.

The new Host Adapters, like all Trantor products shipped since December
1992, come complete with Trantor's new ASPI-compatible software bundle.
SCSIworks!. With SCSIworks!, full support is provided for SCSI hard
drives, CD-ROMs. magneto-optical drives, removable-cartridge drives. SCSI
floppies and Tape Mate II tape backup. Trantor's Music Box audio control
software for CD-ROMs is also included with SCSIworks!.

The T160 has a suggested retail price of US$149.00, the T160F is $179.00
and the T260 is $199.00. All three products are scheduled to begin
shipping in December.

Trantor is the premier supplier of SCSI interface products for the CD-ROM
industry and is a leader in the all-purpose SCSI interface market,
supplying hardware and software products to the IBM-compatible,
laptop/notebook and Apple Macintosh markets. The MiniSCSI, introduced at
COMDEX in 1990, was the world's first parallel-to-SCSI adapter, and
Trantor has expanded the line to now include 3 MiniSCSI models. Founded in
1982, Trantor's products are sold through distributors and dealers
internationally under a variety of private labels as well as the Trantor
brand name. The company is located in Fremont, California (Silicon
Valley).
