NEC INTRODUCES NEW IMAGE 486/66i SYSTEM BASED ON INTEL i486DX2
MICROPROCESSOR NEC

Boxborough, Mass., December 8, 1992--Expanding its successful Image Series
of desktop computers, NEC Technologies today introduced the Image 466/66i,
the most powerful Image system to date. An ideal workstation for Windows,
the Image 466/66i delivers superior graphics performance and fast
information display thanks to ImageVideo technology, NEC's built-in local
bus video technology.

Based on the Intel i486DX2 microprocessor running at 66MHz internally and
33MHz externally, the Image 486/66i brings NEC's enhancing modular CPU
architecture to the i486DX2 class of desktop computers. This small
footprint, powerful performance Image system was especially designed for
the corporate desktop user requiring high performance and speed within the
Windows environment.

As an Image system, the PowerMate 486/66i features ImageVideo-- NEC's
first-to-market implementation of local bus video technology. ImageVideo
technology empowers users with improved graphics performance-- up to 400%
faster information display than standard VGA--without absorbing the cost
of an additional graphics co-processor board.

The Image 486/66i also includes NEC's exclusive ImageSync technology, which
enables the system to sense when it is connected to one of NEC's MultiSync
FG monitors and automatically adjust to the highest possible refresh rate
of that monitor for clearer, flicker-free information display. The
combination of ImageSync technology with 1MB of video memory supporting
high resolution 1024 x 768 x 256 colors offers users full screen display,
clear and flicker-free images, sharp text and graphics, and superb clarity
with a large palette of colors to choose from.

"The Image 466/66i exemplifies our commitment to the five design goals from
the Image line, Integration, Modularity, Affordability, Graphics and
Expandability bringing new speed and performance to the business user,"
said Mike Everett, NEC's desktop marketing manager. "In addition, the
system ships with 4MB RAM (upgradable to 36MB), four 8/16-bit ISA
expansion slots, four storage device drive bays and 128K FLASH ROM."

Distribution and Pricing

The Image 486/66i comes with a limited one year parts and labor warranty
and is available immediately through NEC's extensive nationwide network of
authorized resellers. Although actual retail prices may vary, the Image
486/66i is expected to sell at, or near, the following prices:
