MOLECULAR ARTS CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW RELEASE OF 3D MOLECULAR
VISUALIZATION TOOL

Anaheim, California, December 15, 1992--Molecular Arts Corporation (MAC),
has announced today the availability of chemVISION for Windows (Release
2.0), a PC software tool for 3D molecular visualization. It offers
sophisticated 3D rendering and chemical query capabilities designed
specifically for researchers, scientists, engineers, academics, and
students in the chemistry field. With chemVISION chemists can easily tap
into 3D chemical structure databases; display and render molecular
structures in three dimensions, rotate and scale molecules in 3D space,
examine and make expert queries of their molecule, illustrate their
research documentation with beautiful 3D graphics, share research results
with colleagues, and produce presentation-quality output.

Molecular Arts Corporation's Vice-President of Marketing, Laura Voyles says
of the new product "chemVISION is a research tool that provides scientists
tremendous capabilities in visualizing the structure of complex molecules
they encounter in their chemical research activities. Chemists struggle
daily with representing their research (on 3D molecules) in 2D formats."
She went on to say, "What makes it so exciting is that chemVISION provides
3D visualization tools in an affordable desktop package. With chemVISION,
scientists can visualize their work, make specific chemistry-related
queries, and present their findings to their peers quickly and easily."

Graphical User Interface

By utilizing the popular Microsoft Windows graphical user interface (GUI),
chemVISION takes full advantage of this intuitive working environment,
making chemVISION easy to learn and use. Additionally, by integrating all
the necessary visualization tools under a single user interface, chem
VISION saves scientists time and money.

Tool Enhancements

This release of chem VISION marks the introduction of several new or
upgraded capabilities:

chemREAD-3D: Import/export of 3D molecular structure files. Translate data
into different formats. Enhancement - Support for Brookhaven Protein
DataBank file format added

SELECT-3D: Expert molecular substructure identifier and selector.
Enhancement - Additional query and identification capabilities added.

User Interface: Menu Driven interface fully supports Windows protocols.
Enhancement - New Windows Common Dialogs and Hot Keys added.

chemGRFX: Sophisticated handling of Vector and Raster-based molecular
graphic images. Supports both image import and export via graphics files
and the Windows Clipboard. Enhancement - Support added for an additional
12 common graphics file formats.

VISAGE-3D: Molecular rendering tools, utilizing advanced techniques
previously found only on expensive 3D graphics workstations. Enhancement -
Additional molecule shading options plus improved graphic printing
support.

When added to the popular chemVISION program, these new features provide
chemists with an unparalleled set of capabilities for examining 3D
molecular structures in an affordable desk-top package.

Product Features

Users may read in 3D structure models from many popular and increasingly
available third-party database or modeling programs.

Included in chemVISION is a full suite of rendering tools: the VISAGE-3D
tool set, enabling chemists to create exactly the look they need to
illustrate important research issues. VISAGE-3D includes a full complement
of 3D rendering styles (wire frame, ball-n-stick, space fill, and
cylinder) which can be mixed together on the same molecule. Support is
also included for advanced 3D graphics including: depth cueing, shading,
perspective, and stereo images. When used with the SELECT-3D substructure
selection tools, chemists can rapidly modify their computer models to suit
their documentation needs.

And chemists can use the ZOOMIN magnifying glass tool for highlighting
important aspects of complex 3D structures.

The TAGIT-3D tools allow the user to identify and tag important structural
and chemical attributes of 3D models. Tags are attached to 3D structures
so that they travel together in 3D space if the user decides to reorient
his structure. In this manner, important features of complex structures
will always be readily apparent to even casual observers.

With chem VISION, users also have access to super display graphics with:
real time 3D transformations (translate, rotate, and zoom), multiple dial
devices, and support for high-resolution graphics display cards. By
supporting the popular VGA and SuperVGA graphics standards, display
quality rivaling 3D superworkstations is possible without the expense of a
workstation.

Users also have access to quality hardcopy output provided with support for
Hewlett-Packard laser printers, color printers, PostScript devices, HP
plotters - virtually all Windows-compatible output devices. Chemists can
create everything from slides and transparencies to oversized posters, lab
notebook annotations, and paper-based documentation.

Availability

The commercial release of chem VISION (V2.0) is concurrent with this
announcement. A single-user industrial license is available for $299. This
release will operate on IBM PC's and PC-compatibles that support Microsoft
Windows 3.x. Included is a 90 day money-back guarantee and FREE technical
support for the first 3 months of ownership. Extended Support Plans are
available.
