MAXIMUM STORAGE INTRODUCES CACHING OPTICAL DISK SUBSYSTEM

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. DECEMBER 7, 1992 -- Maximum Storage, Inc. today
announced a new caching optical disk subsystem. Compatible with PC's
running DOS, the new CACHET optical disk subsystem is an order of
magnitude faster than non-cached optical disk drives.

CACHET SUBSYSTEM

Cachet combines an ISO Standard 128 MByte optical disk drive, fast SCSI-2
interface and proprietary caching operating software to provide a
high-performance mass storage subsystem. Easily installed in any DOS-based
PC, CACHET operates just like a standard disk drive and uses
industry-standard 31/2-inch optical disks.

"The days of optical storage being perceived as too slow are now behind
us," said Dr. Paul Schroeder, Maximum Storage president. "And besides
being very fast, CACHET incorporates innovative features not found on
other optical disk subsystems."

HIGH-SPEED CACHE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES PERFORMANCE

A major feature of CACHET is its unique caching operating software, called
"OptoCache". OptoCache is a least-recently-used (LRU) caching system
designed specifically for optical disk drives, significantly improving the
system-level performance of the optical disk drive. It is automatically
configured during CACHET installation procedure and requires no further
user intervention. However, options are provided for sophisticated PC
users which allow custom tailoring of the cache to their particular
computing environment. These options include the use of real or extended
memory, a "write through" option for power-failure tolerant systems, the
user's selection of cache size used by the PC, etc.

QUIK-WRITE FEATURE ADDS PERFORMANCE TO SUBSYSTEM

In addition to its high-performance cache, CACHET offers a feature designed
to even further enhance system-level performance. "QuikWrite" gives the
user the option to disable the erase pass and verify pass during write
operations, resulting in improvements as great as 60% in write speeds.
Many applications can take advantage of this option, including electronic
imaging, multimedia presentations and digital audio recording.

DISK AUTO-INITIALIZE FEATURE COMBINES FLEXIBILITY WITH CONVENIENCE

Another CACHET feature is the "Disk Auto-lnitialize" option. With this
option, CACHET can be configured to bypass the normal disk initialization
procedure and allow virgin optical disks to be automatically initialized
after inserted into the optical drive. Besides the obvious advantages of
user convenience, "Disk Auto-lnitialize" is particularly well-suited when
application programs are not capable of dealing with uninitialized media.
When this happens, the OptoCache software will automatically initialize
the disk upon insertion and then return control back to the applications
program.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

CACHET is supplied as a plug-and-play subsystem with everything required to
interface to the host computer. Both internal-mount and external-mount
versions are available.

CACHET for the PC includes the 128 MByte optical disk drive, SCSI-2
controller card, cables, OptoCache operating software, documentation and
one optical disk. The internal-mount CACHET System 6-INT lists for $2095
in single-unit quantities, while the external-mount CACHET System 6-EXT
lists for $2195. Both the CACHET System 6-INT and System 6-EXT are
available for immediate shipment.

Optical disk cartridges for CACHET are also available for immediate
shipment from Maximum Storage. The M-311 erasable optical disk media lists
for $75, also in single-unit quantities.

Maximum Storage, Inc. is a supplier of optical disk subsystems for the
