Boxorough, Massachusetts, October 5,1992--Entering the growing small and
home business PC market, NEC Technologies, Inc. today introduced the Ready
family of low cost, high function personal computers. The company also
announced it would widen its existing PC distribution network by selling
Ready systems through mass merchandisers, thereby serving more mainstream
consumers.

Designed for small and home business users, the family of Ready systems
consists of one 386-based and two 486-based systems--the Ready 325 system,
the Ready 425 system, and the Ready 433 system--that "plug-and-work" for
instant user productivity. Further stressing the "plug-and-work"
philosophy, NEC includes an impressive suite of pre-loaded software with
each Ready system, including small business accounting, on-line
information service, anti-virus, and integrated business application
software. All Ready systems are also equipped with an integrated data/fax
modem and fax software that enables users to fax from within
applications.

To ensure that Ready systems are easy to use for even the most novice PC
users, all systems include: an easy-to-follow setup video; a "Getting
Started" on-line tutorial; NEC Desktop by Peter Norton, which makes
Windows even easier to use; automatic fax registration; and NEC's
ReadyRemote service, for dial-in technical support through the Ready
system modem.

"Ready systems have been designed to maximize customer satisfaction,
especially for those users who require a reliable system that is also easy
to use," said Denny Lane, director of desktop marketing at NEC
Technologies. "Ready systems allow users to spend less time figuring out
the system and more time actually running their business."

Outstanding Graphics Performance For Low-Cost PCs

Ready systems offer outstanding graphics capability, most notably no
wait-state video and, on the 486-based Ready systems, 24-bit true color.
These graphics features have previously not been available on low-cost
PCs.

Comparable PCs usually have one or more wait states for video throughput,
which slows down video performance as the video "waits its turn." Ready
systems' No Wait State Video Provides faster video throughput, eliminating
wait states for improved Windows performance.

To display images with photograph-like qualities, the 486-based Ready 425
and 433 systems support 24-bit True Color applications in 640 x 480
resolution with 16.8 million colors--as many colors as the eye can detect.
24-bit True Color positions Ready systems at the forefront of technology
in the low-cost PC market, accommodating existing and future True Color
multimedia applications such as picture databases, presentation graphics,
and desktop photo editing.

Service and Support: NEC's Ready Remote Service

In addition to a one-year, on-site limited warranty and unlimited use of a
toll-free Ready support telephone hotline, NEC also offers ReadyRemote
service, a unique remote assistance program through which NEC support
technicians trouble-shoot and problem-solve using the modem included with
each Ready system.

If a user's question can't be quickly answered via a phone call, the user
simply inserts the "Remote Support" disk and re-starts the system. An NEC
Customer Support technician can then dial into the user's system, view the
user's screen, take control of the system, and solve the problem.

"Maximizing customer satisfaction and support was the primary goal of the
Ready system design. Other manufacturers have begun to include remote
programs with their PCs, but these programs benefit only those users who
have invested in a modem. Since NEC's Ready systems include a modem, all
customers may take advantage of ReadyRemote service," added Lane.

To ensure the highest level of system security, the user has complete
control over access to the system. NEC can only dial into the system when
the emergency diskette is used. Once communication is terminated, it
cannot be restored until the diskette is re-booted by the customer.

All The Software A Small Business Needs

In addition to Microsoft Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 5.0, all Ready systems ship
with an extensive array of easy to use application software, including:

** NEC Desktop by Peter Norton and Norton AntiVirus--NEC Desktop by Peter
Norton uses the Norton Desktop 2.0 shell and makes Windows easier to use.
Norton AntiVirus, the leading virus detection package, protects Ready
system users from costly data losses and system down time.

** Prodigy (U.S. only)--Enables users of Ready systems to access a world of
on-line information and services to which small business users would
ordinarily not have access.

** PFS: WindowWorks--This popular program features seven integrated
applications, including word processor, spreadsheet, database, graphics
and label maker. To provide small business users with tools they need to
make their business more successful, Spinnaker Software, developer of PFS:
WindowWorks, has worked with NEC to provide 24 customized small business
templates, ranging from proforma balance sheets to purchase orders, with
each Ready system. Built into PFS: WindowWorks is Delrina WinFax, which
allows Ready system users to send faxes as easily as printing a document.

** Quicken (486 based systems only)--The leading small business accounting
package, complete with an introductory offer for users within the United
States, of two free months of electronic checking.

The Ready 325, 425 and 433: Hardware Features

Designed with three ISA expansion slots and industry standard SIMMs, all
Ready systems are easily expandable and upgradable, thereby protecting a
user's investment should computing needs increase or technologies
advance.

All Ready PCs include dual diskette drives and a high capacity IDE hard
disk drive. The 386-based Ready 325 system includes 2 MB of RAM
(expandable to 20 MB) and a 120 MB hard disk drive (HDD), while the
486-based Ready 425 system and Ready 433 system includes an OverDrive
socket, 4 MB of RAM (expandable to 64 MB), and a 170 MB HDD.

A 14-inch .28 dot pitch, 1024 x 768 non-interleaved Ready Monitor is also
available for all Ready systems.
