FIVE NEW, LOW-COST FAX MODEMS ADDED TO PRACTICAL PERIPHERALS' PRODUCT LINE

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA -- Practical Peripherals introduces five new,
low-cost fax modems for price-conscious PC users who want send/receive fax
capabilities, error control, data compression and other features generally
found only on more expensive modems.

Starting under $100, Practical's PM2400F series offers an affordable
fax/data solution in three formats: the PM2400F internal modem lists for
$99, the space-saving PM2400F Mini for $119 and the convenient PM2400F
Pocket modem for $159.

Data transmission speeds of 2400bps are enhanced by V.42 error control and
V.42bis data compression, implemented in the free Quick Link II (tm)
communications software included with the modems.

PM2400F series users can send faxes at 9600bps and receive faxes at
4800bps. Faxes can be received in the background, leaving the computer
free for other functions, or sent at night when rates are lowest.

"Even though our high-speed fax modems are best-sellers, we recognize that
many users want lower-priced units. Technology now allows us to pack in
more features than ever before, without sacrificing low prices," says Eric
Seedman, Vice President, Sales.

The PM2400F internal fax modem is a half-card in size. The PM2400F MINI is
a miniature stand-alone modem only 4" wide x 5" long x 1.1" tall with
eight LEDs. The tiny PM2400F Pocket modem measures 2.25" wide x 3" deep x
1" tall, just large enough to house an RJ11 jack. It can be powered by
either a rechargeable NiCad battery pack or an AC power adaptor.

The two new fax modems in Practical's PM2400EFX series support V.42 error
control and V.42bis data compression in hardware for optimum throughput.
These 2400bps modems can support DTE (computer to modem) speeds up to
19,200bps.

Although the PM2400EFX modems come with Quick Link II software, users can
take advantage of their full data compression and error control
capabilities with any communications software package.

The PM2400EFX series modems both send and receive faxes at 9600bps.

The PM2400EFXSA stand-alone model is a compact 5.5" wide x 10.5" long x
1.3" tall with eight LEDs and lists for $199, while PM2400EFX is a
half-card listing at $189.

Fully compatible with the industry-standard Hayes AT command set, all five
new fax modems feature full-duplex operation and automatic adaptive
equalization, utilizing optimum line speed, data compression and error
control for each connection.

The PM2400F, PM2400F Mini, PM2400EFX and PM2400EFXSA are scheduled to begin
shipping in October, while the PM2400F Pocket will ship in November.
